Having reached a point where there are very few guns that I really want, I realized that over time I've purchased nearly all of the firearms I really wanted as a kid/young man.

In fact, with the exception of a couple carry guns and hunting rifles that were chosen for practical reasons, the main theme of my small collection is one of guns I used to daydream about.

I wanted a rifle like the Colt Commando my father had in Vietnam - Didn't get the real thing (select fire, SBR), but found an AR-15 of similar style

I wanted a 1911 like the guys in the hard boiled detective novels had - Bought a simple 1911A1 style Colt.

A fighting revolver, like Bill Jordan wrote about in his books and the old gun magazines my grandpa kept - Found a nice, old Model 19 on Gunbroker.

There are several more along the same lines.

Anybody else spend their dough buying the guns they used to draw in their notebooks?

I wanted a German Luger like my dad had when I was little.

But I don't really want it any more.

I got the only pistol I liked as a Kid, a 1911, stopped liking the whole platform and got rid of all of them I had. Talk about a roundabout. The 1911 is a good gun, but over hyped imho unless you're a target shooter.

Only guns I ever wanted as a kid were a Glock and an AK. Got both when I turned 18.

Pretty much. Springfield 1911, Winchester Model 94 carbine, Savage 24 (.22/.410 my first gun). Only thing left on the list is a Thompson M1A1 which I don't think is going to happen.

I think everybody tries to fulfill those childhood desires. I have or had every gun I fantasized about as a kid. Now I gotta focus on the ones I fantasize about as an adult.

I loved reading about and looking at antique firearms as a kid. They were what I desired. Ornate engraving also got my attention..........

That pretty much passed, although I still find them interesting.

Good thing! My pockets are not deep enough for any serious collecting of historical guns.
