A friend used to pick up several B&S push lawnmowers a year for free. Owners thought they couldn't be repaired when they hit some thing that stopped the mower. Sometimes the crankshaft was bent, but most of the time the flywheel key was bent/sheared. Less than $1 part to fix, then he'd turn around and sell them for $50-$150.

I grew up in KY and was there for 40 yrs before I moved to Ohio for my job. In that 40 yrs I never seen or heard of edging the lawn. But now that I've been doing it for a few years, I like the look of it. I'm retiring soon and I'll move back to KY, depending on where I move to I might or might not keep up the edging.

My lawn guy uses a gasoline powered edger every now and then to square everything up but then uses a weed whacker most of the time.

My wife does the yard work. She uses an electric weed whacker to edge now days. It rotates and has little wheels on it. In the old days she used a butcher knife to edge. She found a stone walkway in our back yard which she uncovered with that knife. tom. :cowboy:

Manual here. Short (60ish ft) driveway, and half a sidewalk on my front property line. (between the sidewalk and road is river rock, so it doesn't need it. Doesn't take but an hour to do it all. Actually was planning to do it this week/end.

This is the way I do it too. My dad has a gas edger but to me unless you have a long driveway or some other area with lots of concrete the weed wacker does just fine.

But seriously, below is an "edger". It's different from a trimmer (weed whacker). And with both of these machines, eye protection is necessary. I have an old friend, who we affectionately nicknamed "cyclops" due to an edger mishap with no safety glasses and a broken safety shield. No kidding.

No. My buff 25 year old gardener edges my lawn. Usually shirtless.

We use a manual half-moon edger. I’ve tried an electric edger and even using a weed whacker but the manual edger works fine for my tiny lawn.

Let’s my boys really earn their allowance too.

I answered yes; but I probably should have answered no. Technically, I don't edge it...Federico does it for me. All of his yard equipment is Stihl.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I live 5 miles out of town. I edge the sidewalk and the patio slab.

I live 10 miles outside town and edge our lawn. For 38 years I lived where it was very dry and we lived in places where there was no flat ground, thus no lawn. It’s been my dream to live where we could have a big lawn. For me, yardwork is activity, I get fresh air and sunshine, and am not paying a landscaper to do what I can do.

I have a large house on a rather small lot, so edging takes about 20 mins tops. It all the weed wacking that takes longer. I do it myself, unlike most of my neighbors.
