Do Mechanix gloves 'break in' with use?

I'm on the verge of buying a pair of mechanix originals. But choosing the right size is puzzling. At WalMart today, I first tried on "large" ...felt very tight, especially when making a fist. Then I tried "x-large" ... snug, but fit was tolerable everywhere except the fingertips, which were slightly too long. I know mechanix gloves are supposed to have fingertips that fit nicely, allowing moderately fine work.

When I got home, I went to mechanix' website and printed their sizing chart. It says I need a medium.

The gloves are all synthetic materials, so I'm wondering whether they break-in as a leather glove would. Should I trust mechanix' chart and get mediums?

I wear them at work in warm weather. They are reasonably tough and cheap enough to replace.

I like mine as a second skin and wear the small size. They do get more 'flexible' but I don't think, so much, 'break in' and 'stretch'.

Mine are snug and good from the start. Mine do not "break in". I like snug to pick up stuff.

I'm going to look for some kind of Kevlar next time.

I use them quite a bit, many different models... I do not care for them for shooting...

Try a Police supply or even a golf shop!!! MUCH better feel and control IMHO.

they will stretch a little bit if they get wet, otherwise not. I would get the large and let them stretch in a bit.

I was just in Lowes and tried on a pair of hybrid deerskin/synthetic mechanics gloves. I almost bought them. Fit was perfect, would be a good addition to my Alice pack.

For shooting I have a pair of mesh back golf gloves. Every comfortable.

They have mucked up their sizing lately. I've used Mechanix gloves for a couple years size X-Large. In the last six months I've had to jump up to 2X-Large to get a decent fit.

Good gloves for working with tools, but don't touch something real hot, it will go right through them.

They do stretch out with use. I usually get a pair that fits snug. They will loosen up a bit with use.

I haven't found actual mechanix brand to be worthwhile. I usually get something next to it on the shelf, that has also reinforced knuckles and finger joints. Nothing like having a nice solid piece of rubber or plastic over those parts.

If working with fine stuff or turning nuts/bolts, fingerless is king. If you can't find a decent pair in fingerless, you'll be taking a pair of scissors to the fingertips if you need to do fine work.

I usually have two pairs of these. One for work and one for outdoors use.

This style lasts better than any other in it's class to include the 5.11 and the Oakleys by a 50% margin. I get about 6 months daily use before they start fraying or they wear through at a point that bends. They do stretch with sweaty hands or water.

I've never been comfortable with mechanic gloves on...I miss the "touch" and "feel" of what I'm working on.

I usually just throw on a pair of latex gloves when I'm working on stuff in the garage

I'm a big fan of Hatch neoprene gloves. They are fantastic.

Thanks guys. I guess I will try the mechanix 'large' and hope they do get a little more comfortable after wearing them a while. I appreciate the other suggestions, but these are $16 on Amazon and I'm ordering a few other things when I get 'em so the shipping will be free, so I'm going to give 'em a try. Worse thing that happens is I end up trying something else next time.
