Interesting question:

I have had a GLock 19 forever...custom almost how i want it...only problem is after about 40 rounds it makes a blister on my shooting hands middle finger. i can hit anything anywhere with it, it's just uncomfortable

so i bought an xdm 9mm 3.8. Love it. shoots great. I can hit ALMOST as much with it. and i can shoot it forever.

i bought the xdm to maybe replace the Glock. but dammit i can't get rid of it....

if it were chopped to a G26 grip length, and the trigger guard reduced so i could shoot it all day and carry the same (if not better than) as the xdm.

i cant get any grip reducing places to return my email quotes. so i'm stuck with the stock glock

ARRRRGH....anyone know where i can get someone that will do what i ASK for reasonable turnaround time?

and if i do should i get rid of the dreaded XDM? :)

why would you keep something that is uncomfortable when there are other options that suit you better? that's like saying you buy shoes too big but can still walk okay in them. I am all for owning Glocks but not if it doesn't fit you.

I love my G19. I want to like it the best. I think it is prettier. It is very simple. Parts for it are plentiful. But, the fact of the matter is that I shoot the XDM better and I like the trigger better. Facts are facts. I'm not getting rid of my G19, but the XDM is the primary HD gun. I have had zero issues with either of them.

Go with what works best and don't listen to the anyone else.

it sounds like you are getting a glock blister which is common...maybe try sending it off to cold bore to have the trigger guard undercut..it wont affect the looks or function..but will give your finger some more breathing room. and to answer the question you asked in your thread title..no you dont have to pick..keep them both..they are both great pistols :)

Katy, Tx....hell yeah!

they call it "glock knuckle"....glad i'm not alone...and the work altogether is less than $100

love it

......XDM still stays

awesome side story:

when i took my XDM 45 and 9mm out for the first time it was raining like hell. i got drenched putting up my shoot n c targets at 50ft. they blew off 3 minutes in. so i aimed at the rightmost of the 2 posts holding up the targets .... 2x4s. .... i damn near knocked the whole thing down. it was awesome

Try the S&W M&P 9mm, it's got a slim frame, and no finger grooves. It's been more reliable than any other handgun I've owned including Glock. Comes stock with a stainless guide rod, and 3 changeable backstraps, and holds 18 rounds (same size as G19) what more could you want?

Have you tried shooting drills, speed drills, drawing and shooting, etc. I went to the range months back and brought my then daily carry XD9sc and my new Gen 3 G19. I could shot that XD9sc very accurately...from a stand still. The moment we started with the drills, I found that I shot the G19 better in all situations. Standing still, no movement, sure, almost equal. Just an idea. To this day, as much as I love my XD9sc, the G19 is my go to ccw.

I get the blister too after about 100 rounds. I have solved the problem simply by putting a bandaid over the spot before shooting, wearing gloves, or if you are really daring, taking a round file and gently massaging the area that makes contact with your finger to make it flatter....

Look at the Cold Bore Customs site.

They do some great grip work and can undercut your trigger guard.
I'm having some stipple work, undercut trigger guard, and
removing the finger grooves on my 21SF done by them.
My shooting fingers don't fit in the grooves just right and I get
Glock knuckle. I shoot alright, but it's not comfortable as I want.
There are lots of alterations you can do to your Glock, so it feels
and shoots better for you. I hope you find what you need.
The 19 is a fine weapon, I have one also. Good luck.

Try the M&P, it is barely bigger than the G19, holds two more rounds and is way more comfortable to shoot.

M&P9 fullsize next to a G23

My XD9sc, XD9 4", G19, G30, and G22 get along fine in the same safe. Each having it's own traits that mak me carry them at various times. The G19 hump and finger grooves did not fit my hand like many folks. Rather than give up on such a fine weapon as others said I sent it to Cold Bore Customs. Lane's work made the G19 a thousand times better for me. Wish I would of had the the trigger guard undercut while it was there.
But as the old series "The Six Million Dollar Man" (God I'm getting old) said "we can rebuild him and making him better". The Glock 19 or any Glock for that matter is getting to where you can customize it almost as much as the 1911. Come to think of it with all the new Glock frames, slides, sights, slide modifications, red dots, and so on you can "have it your way". I had the grip reduction done, finger grooves removed, 3.5 lb. Ghost connector, true dot night sights, and +2 extensions on my back up mags on my G19. Except for maybe a 1911 or AR15 what other gun can you personalize so much? And it makes that gun so much more yours. I like the EXO finish look so much I'm going to send imy G19 to CCR for their Nickel Boron finish like I did my G30.
No reason not to make the improvment's that fit you and make the G19 truly your own. And not reason not to get an XDM if you want. My XD's like allot of folks naturally fit my hand better and I still like them. And alternate between my G19, XD9sc, and lately my older SIG 229R 9mm with E2 grip kit. They all have reasons I like them. It's kind of like collecting cars. If you hav the bucks you can appreciate a Ferrari and a 67 Shelby Mustang. Different designs, different ways to go fast and look good. But why not if you can afford it not have those and a Porshe Carrera and a 67 Camaro RS 302? Enjoy each for what they are. All great classic dsigns with great appeal. As soon as I can I'm adding an M&P9c. Love shooting the M&P Series also. Look at having more as a blessing, not a problem!

You can use a Dremel, but if you're not that handy, power tools can make power mistakes.

Wrap a piece of sandpaper around a dowel, take it slow and easy, and contour the trigger guard until it suits you.

When I first got my G26, it was abrading my skin near the base of the thumb. Took some fine sandpaper to it, and cured the problem. Perhaps you too simply need to change the texture of the area that is rubbing you wrong rather than the shape.

It's not rocket science. Plastic is a soft material. Take your time and it should be an easy do it yourself project.

I highly reccommend Lane at Cold Bore Customs for Glock grip reduction and texturing. I sent my 19 to him several months ago and I am so pleased with his work. You can do a search and find pics of some of his work. Turn around time was about a week and it was not real expensive. Totally worth it in my opinion, for ME.

I have 19s, XDMs (3.8c & 5.25) and an M&P 9c (among others). Love them all and have no desire to get rid of any of them. Trust me you can be just as proficient (if not more so) with the XDM as the Glock. Especially because you can actually shoot it more and have more fun time with it. I understand sentimental values but it is really is just a tool. Stop fighting the feeling and go with the one that fits you better but don't get rid of any of them.

Look at having more as a blessing, not a problem!
