I was cleaning one of my older Glock 17's and I noticed several spots on the recoil spring that I initially thought was rust, but looking a little closer and it appears like it might be a silver finish peeling off some areas.

Could just be buildup. The RSA should be brushed clean with a nylon brush every time you clean your weapon.

The gen 3 RSA has a silver coating on it. Not sure what it is, but it kinda looks like galvinizing. I know thats not what it is, but it does look like it. The coating will wear off and it will show up on the under side of the barrel.
