out of THAT many students, wouldn't you think that even one of them would have noticed the little light that lights up when the webcam is on? all of them light up on every laptop. and you would think that some computer kid would have seen it in his firewall log or seomthing.

    WOW! Completely unacceptable! :steamed:

And you are stupid enough to get someone in trouble for "improper behavior in his home"? Are out of your mind. You have no right in that persons home and have no right to tell them what they can or can't do there.

I have a couple laptops with webcams built in and both of them have a piece of electrical tape over the lense for this very reason!

Very good. All webcams should come with a cover. Now about the microphone thing - you gotta cover the mike or hard switch to make sure it's not on either. Never know who's listening!!

Most people are oblivious to how computers work. Not surprised this wasn't caught at all!

One has a light and the other doesn't. I'm sure you could uninstall the software but I don't mess with things I don't know anything about. I just cover it.

Technology these days can be freaky. Especially with wireless internet.

Nope, you're not too paranoid at all. Just very practical and forward thinking. This is why I got a laptop without a webcam.

If I want to chat, I plug in a USB webcam. When not in use, I unplug the webcam.

i am sure some people here can tell you how to disable the microphone AND webcam easily through the device manager.

Ditto on the tape. I put a small square of paper over where the lens actually is under the tape though.

When I troubleshoot computers that have a webcam, I put my hat over it if the customer won't let me (or I can't) unplug it.

These laptops were given to the students by the school district, so they probably did not have admin rights to disable the webcam drivers.
