Since the slides/barrels are not compatible with Gen 3...

Why not make the 9mm barrel the same outer diameter as the 40cal, with the .40cal size hole in the end of the slide? Then, could one could factory interchange from 9mm to .40cal to .357sig.

    Oh well.

40 and 357 is not a problem but there is difference in the breech face between 40/357 and 9mm

I don't think the breechface (part of the slide) is different, just the ejector/extractor (NOT part of the slide).

Not the least bit, because I didn't expect anything. Those that don't expect, won't be surprised.

Switching the 9mm barrel diameter to be compatible with the .40 would make the new 9mm barrels not work with the older guns, and create a problem more users would run into, especially if Glock only wants to produce 1 barrel.

The Gen 4 slide and frame are different, but AFAIK the rest of the internals are the same.

Again, not accurate. In the Gen 4's the recoil spring set up is an entirely different multispring unit that can not be retrofited back into the earlier models nor can the earlier versions fit the new Gen 4's.

You can run a G3 slide on a G4 receiver.

The 9mm barrel not being a drop-in fit for the G22 is nothing new to the Gen4. A conversion has always been needed.

Additionally I've had no problem dropping a .357sig gen3 KKM barrel into mine and running a couple thousand rounds through it.
