Disabled/Wounded law-enforcement groups?

I mean no disrespect when I say there is dang near a support group for everything. When I was able, I donated to most of them and volunteered for a few. I have found no reputable organization that supports wounded or disabled officers, following a search.

All major law enforcement organizations seem to have short term memory when it comes to this. I am guilty of this when I was a district officer serving on committies in one association. We were pushing for better retirement and contracts for Chief's. Well as I go through this, my retirement looks bleek. boat is sold, and dream property is now as far from me as Mars.

Most of you will understand that the majority of officers work for towns and counties under 30,000, many without any retirement benefits. Officers with great benefits have a difficult time understanding this. I am one that could benefit from support with SSI problems, depression and PTSD issues. There are many other folks in my shoes, I know this.

Does anyone know of a group? Seems most are a scam.

Sorry Chief, I really wish I could help in some way but I don't know of any support group outside of my agency's. My agency has an internal support/survivor group.
Disabled law-enforcement groups?
The International Association of Chiefs of Police?

Or is this not what you meant...

I am not aware of any. For the most part once you leave the job due to disability your former employers prefer to simply forget about you. And for the most part you will make fellow officers uncomfortable as a living reminder of what COULD happen to them.

Ironically most officers who have never had to deal with disability issues or be forced from the job tend to think of disability retirement something like winning the lottery.

They tend to view it as an early retirement.
You checkecd with the FOP? While I don't know if they offer support themselves, surely they have resources to point you towards. If you need any help contacting them, let me know. I'm very active.in our lodge, and should be able to get some info.
The 10-13 club is one such organization. It is comprised of retired NYPD members. Some of their regional clubs do allow and accept members of other law enforcement agencies. I believe the one closest to you would be the Northeast Florida chapter found at http://northeastflorida10-13.org/

It is unfortunate that there seems to be no other organizations to fill this role.
