Dipping into 9mm 1911s

The 1911 was deveoloped for .45ACP, right?
Thus spake John Moses Browning, and from his lips came, fully formed, all that pistoleering need be or strive for.
And it was good.
Until some heretic thought what was good for 45ACP would be great for 9mm.

That foreign cartridge, not American… in METRIC the measurement system of those idlers, aristocrats, and monarchists too lazy to multiply and divide by 12.

Why?

I guess one just has to try to unscrew the inscrutable…..

Fresh from my FFL today, a Tisas A1 Tank Commander in….. 9mm.

Forgive me, JMB, for I have sinned.

I was considering a Garrison 9mm as my second 1911 after my Colt Competition, but I keep toying with the idea of a Tisas and the Tank Commander is one of them I've been looking at. But part of me says if I'm going to buy a classic design, it should be in .45 ACP and look more like this one:

Definitely interested in a range review on yours.

Also, just how poor is the sight picture on those compared to more modern arrangements?

No sinning, just some advancement with the changing times. I always wanted a 2011...

More importantly, if you are going to buy a classic, it should be made in the USA.

If you think it isn't worth and extra $200 to buy a Springfield Armory, you will when you try to re-sell it.

They did 9mm long ago in the guise of the 38 Super and 38 ACP before that.

Had a Colt Commander in 9mm 40 years ago. Needed a ramped barrel like Tisa's.

I came here just to say that.

I frankly don’t understand the passion for Mil-Spec 1911s. The sights are horrid. My Tisas SS45 sights are pretty good Novak style.

With this Tank Commander, the sights are standard, non-adjustable gray with serrations on the front, but no color.

Sorry, quick snaps that should have come in as horizontal, but you can get the idea of the sights.

I'm not opposed to spending more for the SA. I started with a Colt. If I go the Garrison route, I'll gladly buy a SA.

Yet, while I'm not a 1911 historian so correct me if I'm wrong, the SA Mil-Spec seems less Mil-Spec than the Tisas -- other than the country of origin, of course. The thought was if I chose to go for the WWII era look, I'd get the one that has more of the look.

I still have a 1974 Colt Combat Commander in 9mm. Love 9mm 1911s. I really want a lightweight commander 1972 or earlier - before the garish combat commander roll mark.
You’re gonna enjoy the hell out of it they shoot so soft dang near zero felt recoil. Congrats looking forward to a range review.

Those sights are huge compared to the originals.

I don't know. The original tiny sights suck, yet for some reason, my old '72 .45 Colt LW commander I gave away to my uncle, I could put everything within the 8 ring at 25 yards on a normal silhouette no problem.

For me, and my personal accuracy, that was amazing.

Well, the original sights worked for the purpose -you arent sniping at 800 meters with a 1911.

I am settling into the 45 1911, so the 9mm will be an interesting comparison.

I used to feel the same way. A 1911 needed .45 acp or .38 Super. Last year I bought a SA Garrison in 9mm. Mostly because 9mm is so readily available. It was surprisingly pleasant to shoot and accurate. I liked it enough that I bought a Staccato P 2011.

I'm a convert.

For some reason I have never felt the urge to go with 9mm in a 1911. I have the tried and true 45, 10mm, and 22tcm. Only other one I would like to get my mitts on is a Coonan.
if you gonna do something like that do the Prodigy.... I'm doing that as my next.
