I noticed that some of the nails were bleeding.

So I don't have Alum or a Styptic pencil in the house.

I called the Vet (who was about to close)and was told to use Flour.

I put some in a plastic bag and held his foot in it for a few minutes.

    It stopped the bleeding.

And yes my clippers have a guard on them and I used it.

Buy a cordless dremmel tool and grind them with a sandpaper bit.you will never have to worry about bleeding again and risking hitting the quick, which is painful for the dog and makes clipping their nails even more difficult. You can get these dremmel tools with the new lithium ion batteries for about $40- a real deal. Just grind the nails until you don't hear them clicking on the floor.
