In this livestream, I ask whether the baby boomer generation laid the groundwork for the social and economic mess we now see around us, and whether they're generally incapable of taking responsibility for what they've done."

The liberal ones have certainly severely damaged the nation and Western Civilization.
    Many seek its destruction.

It's not the fault of everyone in the baby boomer generation.

There were and are plenty of baby boomers who have been fighting cultural Marxism for decades.

In fact, it can be argued that the self-appointed "greatest generation" (most socialist generation, more like) started the ball rolling toward socialism by voting for FDR 4x, and then voting for LBJ.

The boomers can't be blamed for that.

Having said all that, the disillusionment of a lot of young conservatives toward the boomer generation is understandable.

The cultural Marxist takeover of society we are suffering under today could have been nipped in the bud in the 1960s, but most of the boomer generation were too busy virtue signalling about how tolerant they are.

Also, young people are justified in being angry at certain boomers who exhibit a self-centered "I just hope everything stays ok until I die" attitude.

We see this self-centered attitude even on this forum occasionally, from people who say stuff like "well, at least America won't fall apart until after I die. I'll be long gone when SHTF. Good luck dealing with all the problems!"

So to summarize, not all boomers are to blame for the current state of America, but in general the WW2 generation and the boomers inherited the greatest society on earth, and allowed the Marxists to destroy it, by not nipping cultural Marxism in the bud when they had the chance.

No generation is perfect, but millennials and young Americans are understandably resentful that they will never get to enjoy the safe, peaceful, wholesome, and moral America that their parents and grandparents grew up in.

LBJ was not a baby boomer.

    DJT was.

So it's not all of one group.

I will never understand how the generation that survived the Great Depression and won World War 2 raised the smelly hippie beatniks of the 60’s? Now we are a couple generations in. I understand it’s not true of every baby boomer. I just don’t understand how after going through almost unimaginable poverty, to kicking the hell out of Nazis and Fascists, the greatest generation raised the smelly, dirty, free loving, lazy, drug using, beatnik hippies of the 60’s and 70’s.

The greatest generation gave us the Socialist programs that will bankrupt this country, whatever boomers did is secondary to that.

the GCA of 68 is a joint theft of our freedom but it was GG that led the charge.

By my birth year, I'm a baby boomer. My father served in WWII near the end of it. For my entire life I never voted for any of the marxist crap forced on us, it worked against me since I was in a trade union for over 40 years.
We were expected to vote in lockstep for which ever democrat happened to be running.

I didn't agree, and voted the way I wanted to vote. My father voted for democrats all the time. He passed away before the previous president (D-Nairobi) made it to the White House. I'm sure his string would have been broken when that clown ran.

FDR died before I was born, but not before making people turn in gold and then raising its price, instituting the payroll withholding, and of course social security.
The dems took those things and ran wild with them. The payroll tax was "just for the emergency of the war" and it was said that everybody would get their money back and the tax would go away.
    Right, when chickens have lips.

So most of the boomer generation had that already in place before they were born.

Those boomers who ran for office, especially the likes of Bill Clinton, used all of those things against the country. Clinton and Gore put into play the taxing of your SS benefits when it was paid out. Jimmy Carter allowed people who never put in nickel one to draw benefits.

These things were not voted on by the boomer generation, they were put in by scumbags who happened to be boomers.

I was never a hippy, never could stomach them. I did like much of the music, though.

Boomers didn't lay around Mom's basement playing video games all day.
Boomers did their chores, and their homework, and didn't get participation trophies.
Boomers got educations, and jobs, and portfolios of investments, and real estate.
Boomers might be the last generation to retire in style.
    :suntan::fishing::motorcycle:
Too bad they raised such a pathetic, weak, entitled generation of snowflakes to follow them.

I’m a boomer, I’ll take the free love, but the rest doesn’t apply. I completed 24 years in the USAF, never used drugs, and take a shower every day. You cant paint a generation with a big brush. Not all millennials still live in their moms basement and are lazy etc..

I think they spoiled their kids because their lives were so rough. It's that simple.
The Cultural Marxists were already in education and the media waiting to indoctrinate them.

The majority of all voters under 40 voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The majority of all voters 40 and older voted for President Trump in 2016.

Would the Babyboomers in this thread consider their generation as a whole to be conservative or liberal?

I think you have your generations crossed. Baby Boomers were born starting in '46. Lots of returning WWII GIs created a boom of babies. The "silent generation" is the one from the 20s through the early 40s. Early Boomers would've been a part of the hippie movement, not a parent of it.

I squeaked in to the official Boomer dates.

The greatest generation spent their later years gaming the system................the boomers just took it to the next level. I heard the greatest generation talking as I was growing up, I saw what they were up to.

I only got a little over 12 years into a government pension, would like to have gotten 20. Things got too stupid to stay. I'm not getting all that much, so I don't think I screwed things up too bad.
The bulk of mine will be coming from other sources.

The rock & roll generation gave us classic rock on FM stereo.
The younger kids think rap crap is music. It isn't.

The groundwork for the current mess was laid out during the Wilson administration. The big hits were the 16th, 17th and 18th Amendments.
