All you blue collar folks, which do you prefer?

I've been wearing Dickies for years but am currently thinking of switching to Carthart because of the negative rep that Dickies have with them of being "gangsta' wear".

New one to me that Dickies have been endorsed by people from "'da hood", who'd of thunk that!! But, I've never cared for them. The only clothes I've seen from Dickie are a cotton/poly mix.

I prefer the Carhartts in 100% cotton. Plus it's easier for me to find them in tall versions. Sadly, like everything else, they're not made in the USA anymore.

I wear both-my carthart stuff lasts much longer.
Enough so that in the end carthart might be cheaper.

So if you wear your Dickies with your Doc Martens, do you kick your own ass?

Yuppies and hoods wearing Cathcart and Dickie's is news to me.

Around this part of Texas both are standard wear for rednecks.

That said I wear both brands of jackets, Cathcart seems better built and dickies seems much less expensive.

if you need insulated wear Carhart wins out tenfold, Dickies can't even come close if your the winter outdoor construction type, summer wear, its really your personal choice, but for me once I went with Carhart many years ago nothing comes close, Duluth I have never tried, they simply don't have the availability around here yet.

If I stopped buying things I currently enjoy simply because the gang culture likes them also, there wouldn't be much left. HH

I don't do cotton so they are both out for me. I prefer wicking materials so I'm not wet with sweat all day.

If your employer is paying..who cares?

If you are paying....well....imagine if you started the a conversation as such.

"I found a good deal today so I bought some Dickies...."

I mean..who wants to admit to buying "Dickies"?

I've never worn Dickie's work pants; Carhartt's seemed to last for years. But Carhartt's seem to be made of lighter, cheaper material these days. Am I wrong?

Exactly what I was going to say.

I've also had very good luck with Walls insulated coveralls. I actually like them a little better because the leg zipper goes all the way up to the thigh, rather than about only about 8in, which makes putting a boot through the leg a pain (I think most newer Carhart overalls have waist zippers now).

Speaking strictly about insulated clothing. Another brand I've worn and really like (less known).. is Key. I think they are mostly big and tall, but they make regular sizes as well. My Walls had torn, and I needed a pair as it was freezing, and it was all that was in stock in my size. Very warm, and I was happy with the purchase. I wore them for about 4yrs and they saw me through some frigid winters.

I need to get me a new set of coveralls for this winter.. and I'd have no issue getting Key again if I seen them around.

I wish you were wrong! They have several different styles, and some are heavier duty than others, but at least what is offered at the stores around me have taken a big hit in quality over the past few years.

Hey. I've got a pair of Walls insulated overalls. I wonder where they are. Last year was super-warm in the winter and this year wasn't bad. I forgot I had them. Time to check the mudroom closet. For next year, of course.
