It's those darn dope smokers. It's a good thing we have a nanny government that knows what's best for us, and protects us from ourselves with the drug war.

Do you have any idea how MUCH money is exchanged for weed with no taxes paid?

It wouldn't change the price much if .gov collected the windfall profits instead of narcotrafficantes.

I wonder if any of this has any connection to a mexican military chopper being spotted over a small town in Texas.. There have been two verified incidents where residents, and local law enforcement had seen a mexican military chopper with armed soldiers aboard.
p.s, im not implying that the mexican military is up to no good, rather they may be tracking these gangs into the US..?

But they can still screw us out of the taxes by raising taxes on other things. But they won't get the power back they would lose if they legalized it.

Government can print all the money it wants. It's the power it wants.

The sooner we legalize dope the sooner the Mexican Mafia runs out of money.

Maybe cops in those locales should be given a choice to carry SMG's if they wish.

On every traffic stop, that i see that it is a hispanic male or males in the vehicle, i would have a extra officer with me and have a M4 or Shotgun slung against my chest.

    They play there games
The officers will play theres, and i tell you..kill one cop and you will have a nation of cops after you and searching for you and im sure they are more highly trained than the " assassins ".

    How do you know this?

If the US legalizes pot, there will be taxes placed on it, nobody is talking about how much. Tax at the same rate as cigarettes? Higher? What's to say the Mexican or Canadian cartels won't decide to compete, sell it cheaper? It still remains contraband.

They may legalize weed, but will they legalize Meth? Cocaine? Heroin? Still bucks to be made there.

The police can't keep their guard up forever. They already do a dangerous job and look what happened to those four officers in Lakewood, WA. I think if this is true it will end badly for a lot of people. For some of the MexMaf hitters, for some police officers, for some innocent bystanders and for law-abiding citizens who will lose more of their rights as the State's knee jerks.

I would feel better if I thought this were possible. After all, an accidental border crossing in the course of doing their jobs could be overlooked. Heck, every country which has patrolled a border has had it happen a few times, and it's not an intentional provocation. My ex told me she once accidentally crossed the border into Ireland (en route to a border checkpoint) when she was in N. Ireland because she's lousy at map reading. Every such incident shouldn't be assumed to be an act of aggression.

However, I have also met a few guys who served in the Mexican army, and they say many of the officers are as corrupt as other government officials. They are on the payroll of the cartels and frequently look the other way when they are supposed to be interdicting smugglers -or worse, they help them.

Ok, allow me to restate... the sooner we legalize dope the sooner the Mexican Mafia's bottomline will take a significant hit. I wsn't talking just about weed. I said dope. You don't see the mob making big bucks and doing drive-bys over alcohol sales any more do you?

    Read this: http://app.response.stratfor.com/e/es.aspx?s=1483&e=4834&elq=83de8311ed6e43b390b2fb7ff8d67d37

The study there is that the Mexican government is complicit in the drug trade because the drug trade is so lucrative. It is a low cost commodity to produce and had huge gross margins when sold. It is not in the interests of the Mexican Government to do anything other than to look like its doing something....just to pacify the Americans who are also sending them <$35Billion a year to do something about it.
Its the story of the greater fool...we are the greater fools here.

Interesting article which confirms what I've heard from many Mexicans.
