I am a native Detroiter and will be coming back home early next year to visit family.

    Planning this trip early.

Nothing in the world like Detroit Coney Dogs and Pizza.

Please give your suggestions as to where to go for either.

Will be in the Detroit area for about three weeks.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

I almost forgot to mention pierogis and pasties (no, not THOSE pasties.)

    Tried and true:
For coney dogs it’s either Lafayette or American.
    For pizza it’s Buddy’s.
For pasties you have to head north to the U.P..

    I get everything you say.

Maybe not the best, but aren’t there some pastie shops in the Detroit area? Don’t have enough time to drive up to the U.P.

I’m not sure about getting a pastie in the metro Detroit area. I do know that some grocery stores sell pasties from Albie’s.

Is Buddy’s still on the Eastside of town?

    Conant?

I remember getting pizza at the old BelCon Lounge (Belmont and Conant) in the mid-Seventies. Lottaf old, 1950’s jazz drunks hung out there.

    Damned good pizza, btw.

    What's a Detroit pizza like?

    Thick, thin, coal fired, what?
