If you can't win, change the rules. Sounds like they are admitting defeat.

    https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-u...court-justice-terms-to-18-years-idUSKCN26F3L3

"Democrats in of the House of Representatives will introduce a bill next week to limit the tenure of U.S. Supreme Court justices to 18 years from current lifetime appointments, in a bid to reduce partisan warring over vacancies and preserve the court’s legitimacy.

The new bill, seen by Reuters, would allow every president to nominate two justices per four-year term and comes amid heightened political tensions as Republican President Donald Trump prepares to announce his third pick for the Supreme Court after the death on Sept. 18 of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, with just 40 days to go until the Nov. 3 election."

    Good luck passing the Senate,
if not... then it is just a futile exercise
and then a dumb idea to even mention it, getting backlash for nothing.

I’m sure that they are preparing all manner of legislation should the unthinkable take place in November.

Congress cannot just change the term of the SCOTUS justices. It's defined in the US Constitution - which as you will recall is not a living, breathing document...

An amendment to the Constitution would be required. Good luck with that.

First, they wanted to pack the court with Democrat judges and then found out it's virtually impossible and now they want to reduce partisan waring and preserve the court's legitimacy. These people are a total joke.

**** them, and **** their stupid bill.

I am stunned by their obtuse thinking... with all that is going on, they are trying to change the tenure of the COTUS... really?...is there nothing better to work on?...no wonder our confidence in Congress is so low

I’m sure the Left is secretly fuming over RBG’s refusal to retire during Obama’s first term.

No matter how long or shot they make it, if you limit their terms then they're just politicians. I could see putting an age cap on it, maybe ... but within ten or twenty years whatever age you choose as a cutoff would be obsolete. Best leave it alone. Lifetime appointment isn't a perfect answer (the last few years of Ginsburg makes it clear why) but it's the best answer.

The Democrats do these kinds of things to make it appear to their naive followers that they're doing something. This is why knowledgeable individuals are their worst fear...
