While dry practicing today, I found out something that I don't know is supposed to happen. :wow:

I was practicing releasing the spent magazine with the slide stop engaged and racking a new magazine. If I gave the magazine a good pop to seat it in the gun, the slide stop disengages................chambering a round. If I softly push it in, it stays engaged........and I need to slingshot the slide (my preference) or hit the slide stop.

What gives??? Normal operation or not???:dunno:

It's normal. They all do it. Most people like that it does this, but don't rely on it to always happen, like when in a stressed situation.

Your slide stop lever could be slightly worn.

Like I said, I was dry practicing removing a spent magazine with the slide lock engaged and racking a fresh magazine. I was doing this for proficiency/speed. Just the action of me (using the heel of my hand) inserting it into the gun caused this to happen. There was no BFH involved SS!!!! I was trying to simulate a stress reload or competition situation, so I was indeed popping it up there........moreso than if I was slow firing and changing mags at the range.

Mechanica, the gun only has about 2500 rounds thru it and I don't make use of the slide stop excessively.

I can see how this would be advantageous in a speed situation though!!!! Just wanted to make sure the gun was still OK with this post!!! Thanks!!

I've had it happen, not only with my Glock but with Rugers and Colts.

It is very common but I can't get my G26 to do it. I have slapped it like a red headed stepchild.

(no offense to any red heads)
    (or stepchilds)

HK USP's are known to do this also.

That is a design feature, for rapid combat mag changes they all do it but you sometimes need the force of adrenalin to slam the mag in hard enough

My g19 doesnt do it. I can slap it in very hard and the slide stays back. Sounds like a problem to me.

Try aiming the pistol up 30-45* from horizontal, and slap a full mag firmly into it.

My G19 does it too, it takes a bit of oomph to get it to drop the slide but it's normal. My Sig P229, XD, and my HK USP all do this too if you hit the mag hard enough. My SA 1911 will not though, the slide stop on those 1911s lock way too well for this to happen.

Normal. Most every pistol I have fired will do the same thing if you give the magazine a good slap.
