I don't reload, and despite being able to convert guns between calibers, due to the cost I just don't (except for .40S&W / 357SIG). The comparison of the barrel cost compared to the cost of a whole new gun being just a bit more usually draws (suckers) me in. So for that reason, I would choose a G20.

Having said that, you do reload, so the G21 may be a better option for your needs. In the end, you are going to have fun! Both will serve you well!

As you mentioned, you are not hunting. Get the 21. I have a 21sf and it is great. 45 is cheap and easy as you know.

Get the 21. Then, if you still have a 10mm itch, get a Lone Wolf 45-10mm conversion barrel and Glock 20 mags and you will be ready to go. I used this setup and put a good bit of 10mm through it with no malfunctions. If you are going to run the hotter stuff, replace RSA with a stouter set of springs.

Get a LW 40 conversion barrel. You can go shoot for cheap.

I have both. If the G17 is carry and home defense, etc. And you're sticking with that, then my choice would be the G20. Super gun, lots of fun, gets it done.
Might consider the G21 for conversion possibility. But that can be a hassle, and I have to admit, my G20 makes me smile.
And of course, best post is buy both.

Cost of dies is minor in the long-haul. Don't postpone the inevitable. 10 AUTO for various reasons. Variety if for no other reason.

If a killer deal for a 20 shows up first, get it. If a killer deal for a 21 shows up first, get that. Both show up at the same time, get the 20. 21's are easier to find. Not that 20's are rare, but there are a ton of 21's available as trade-ins right now. Seems people tend to keep their 10mm's.

Then, save and get the other one.

Not a believer in conversion slide/barrels as Glocks are cheap. Get the barrel (and really the slide too for reliability) and 3 mags and you are solidly halfway (more with the slide) to the cost of just buying the whole gun on the used market anyway.

Glocks are not expensive. Buy one, brown bag it for a month, then get the other one.

I certainly like the 21. Great for Winter carried in a Miami Vice shoulder rig. An accurate soft shooter and you have 13 rounds, Man.

I have both. I got the G21 first and I was given a Storm Lake 10mm conversion barrel for it. I got a heavier recoil spring and a couple of G20 mags and it worked great. I recently got the G20 as I wanted a dedicated pistol for hunting.

In your situation, if I had to choose just one, I guess I would say get the G21 and pick up a conversion barrel for it.

Get the G21. Much more versatile caliber. Great on the street, fun to reload, and since you do reload, if you find yourself in the need for some extra juice … whip up some .45 Supers.

Ain't much that a .45 Super won't reckon with, that a 10mm will ! Humans and 95% of the critters out there will fall to a .45 ACP just fine !

Go shoot a 20 or 20sf and see if the 10mm is for you.

If you are set up for reloading .45 then, like "thequintessentialman" mentioned, .45 Super is available and/or .450 SMC.

The 21 is a conversion master. You can get barrels to turn it into 10mm, 40/357, 45 Super, 400 Corbon, 50 GI and many more. So, go that route if you want the extra options.

I'd probably go with a G21. If you get the itch for more power you can always try out 45 Super and then you'd have something definitely more powerful than 10mm. I do like the 10mm but I also think it's probably the most overrated cartridge out there, it really won't do anything a .40 or .45 won't already do, but it'll sure cost you more.

Get the 20, get the reloading dies and you will be addicted.

You can push a 125 g. Nosler at 1500 fps
    or--
    A 180g. Gold Dot at 1200 FPS
    and----
everything in between, (plus 220 g. hard cast)

10mm is the most versatile handgun caliber out there.
If you're into reloading, nothing beats it.

Also, I have the SF models because they feel better in my hand than standard.
