I know most here are too proper, rich, high class to consider a buffet. I realize some think that Ramsey guy is worth his additude.
I like to eat. I like to eat a variety of good, hot food. Over last month I have been to a buffet almost every week. Dang tasty food for good price.

One was new Chinese place. Just putting up signs. $7 a head I plan to go back soon. Fathers day a local pub. $11 a head and I have to say food was average. Too much salt/peper on some things.
Tonight a place that used to be excellent yrs ago. $4.50 a head with dang good salad bar, couple kinds of chicken, spuds, stuffing, gravy,etc,etc... Well now its $7.50 and lettuce, two kinds of dressing, coleslaw, some marshemello/jello thing. (no herring, shredded cheese, crutons, hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, etc, etc) and only one kind of chicken.... Then again I realize times are tough.

With all these places I never got sick. Yes I got stuffed, wanted to take it easy after wards, maybe needed to use stool a little quicker. BUT I don't feel it was anything "wrong" with food just spicer, richer, more then I normally eat.

I love being able to show up, get what I want, as much as I want. If there is something I don't care for I don't take more, if I do I grab a lot. Cost is similar. No waiting for ONE person in party who can't decide what to order... Yep I plan to hit them more often.

I agree with you. I like them for the same reasons.

I went to boarding school for six years. Don't do buffet/cafeteria food unless I have to.

Avoiding buffets isn't about any of those things.

I eat too much as it is. Most Americans do. Going to a place that gives you an economic incentive to stuff yourself stupid doesn't make much sense to me. My days of trying to maximize my calories per dollar are long behind me.

Don't be too quick to roll buffet goers into a stereotype :)

Also you can drop a chunk of change on some of them around here. I took the wife to a breakfast one for mothers day and spent $80. There's one we go to in Ocean City with crab legs and lobster bisque and stuff like that and it will usually run over $100 just for the 2 of us.

There are tons of Chinese ones too, haven't been to one in a while but they are usually pretty decent, sometimes they aren't though, so many of them so it's best to check around a lot and do the "research" to find the best ones at the best price.

Then you have the Golden Corral type places where the food is more on the plain side but good homestyle most of the time. I do get a little depressed about them though because I see how much food goes to waste when so many, even in our own country, are going hungry.

There was this one in Gettysburg that we thought was the best in that area but last time we went it wasn't as good so some of them are hit or miss I guess. Maybe the good cook called in sick that day.

I do dig a buffet though, now you got me thinking about what the next one we go to will be.

More power to you, I rather enjoy stuffing myself and enjoying a good buffet, after all that's why I went in the first place. Smoke a cig when I'm done and head home for a nap. Life's simple pleasures IMO.

A really good buffet is hard to find. Usually places that do nothing but buffets are the worst.

There is an Indian restaurant here that does a Saturday 2 hour buffet that is spectacular. The main secret is, the food needs to be high quality and super fresh.

IMO the best twist on the buffet concept is Dim Sum

There are some outstanding buffet places in Korea. They typically have a line of side dishes, and also, what looks like the meat department of a grocery store. You pick your meat (cut right there), and then you go back to your table, which has a built in gas grill. You bring a platter of meat back to the table and cook it yourself, and then everyone shares what is cooked. The act of cooking and sharing the food contributes to the atmosphere of the place, and you can be sure that the meat is thoroughly cooked. All of this costs about $15 per person, accounting for drinks. It is one thing about this country that I will miss.

I tend to dislike buffets because (especially at the Chinese ones) the food is rarely as hot as it should be, and they don't replenish often enough so the food tends to dry out not looking appetizing in the least.

When I need a good healthy choice I go to the Golden Corral buffet..
I have a spinach and greens salad with fresh broiled chicken.

Then I can have a plate of veggies.

I don't even look at the desert area.

It's a value when I need to eat a healthy meal quick.

Hey, if you like it, chow down.

I personally hate the feeling of being stuffed or overfull... I just don't get it. To me it's like saying you enjoy being hung over.

Sure food is good, so is drink... the aftereffects of overindulgence are not.

I truly believe that gluttony is a Sin, and that people who take more than they need at the table will take more than their share in other things. You can usually spot these people pretty easily though, because they usually suffer from obesity. Fat people are displaying the outward manifestation of a character flaw.

Great to know you enjoyed your experience at the local buffets. Nothing wrong with them. I just avoid them because I tend to stuff myself specially if the food is really great.

I don't hate buffets. It's the self loathing afterward.

I still try to manage my carbs to complex ones only. (only thing that seems to work for weight control) I like them because and can pick only the stuff that matches what I want to eat.

Agree it is easy to eat too much though.................and quality can vary.
