Hi all. I submitted my CHL application a little over a month ago. TxDPS is supposed to turn them around in 60 days, so they aren't late or anything, but I was told they were running about 30 days. Has anyone just recently received their CHL? If so, how long did it take from the time you completed your final paperwork? Thanks.

I did mine online 9/9/11 and received plastic in my mailbox on 9/30/11...it was a renewal and I didn't have to take the class or do the shooting part because it was my fourth renewal.

Is yours a renewal or initial license? Also you can check the status online if you'd like.

Mine is a new license. I've been checking online every day, but my status hasn't changed in a month.
Is your status on Background Check Under Review?Give it awhile and when you're close to 45-50 days call them or email them and ask whats up...

If you have moved a lot or have something in your background from years ago it may take the entire 60 days or longer.

Are your fingerprints approved yet? There are a number of things that can delay you for up to 180 days but that's not common.

Did my renewal online august 12th. They received my paperwork the 17th. Didn't get my license until september 28th. 43 days from they had it to me receiving it.

I have no record and not even a speeding ticket since I got my first license.

The fingerprints went through pretty quick, about a week. I think the hangup may be the background check. I'm pushing 40 now and haven't had so much as a speeding ticket in 15 years, but I did have a couple altercations as a young man, like being old enough to vote and serve my country, but not old enough to drink a beer in public. Those records would predate computers. Maybe that's the slow down. Someone actually has to find the file drawer and pull the hard copy.

I just briefly checked the Texas CHL forum as michael e suggested, and I'm not alone in the waiting game. I got a chuckle out of one comment: At least now I know my DL number. Me too, from logging in so many times.

I will endeavor to be patient. And I'll send an email inquiry to TxDPS some time in the next few days. Can't hurt.

On a side note, I'm new to glock talk and I'm very impressed with the 'caliber' of people here. Thank you for your feedback.

Were you convicted of anything? If the answer is yes and you didn't tell them that may be the problem, they will find out about them.

Yes, I have some convictions for very minor offenses, but I described each one in detail to the best of my ability. One of my concerns is that those convictions occurred a very long time ago and I don't recall the details very well. Filing my application online, the date fields were absolutely specific. They may as well have asked what time Eastern and Central. I estimated to the best of my ability and noted that the dates were approximate. My dates could be off by as much as a couple years, but I did my honest best.

Then you have nothing to worry about. CHL applications are handled by humans, not machines, and they make allowances for such things, especially when the infractions occurred long ago.

If you're worried, telephone them. The few times I've had to do that, they were very friendly and quite informative.

What kind of minor ones? Some minor things can disqualify you.

I took the class August 20th, submitted my app August 21st, and the fingerprints went out August 25th. I think it was September 1st that I emailed an inquiry, and it was confirmed that it had been received and was being processed. The fingerprints were approved about a week later.

So I started counting days at September 1st, and here we are into October.

I went ahead and emailed a request for status today. :patience:

You can never tell with TXDPS. Some people had it in a matter of 3-4 days (yeah, record breaking there), but the average was 30 days. Mine took just about 31 days at the beginning of this year.

Good luck to you. It's a very hard wait. I remember checking the status every. single. day.

I did get a response back from my email inquiry, a very robotic, one button type response with standard wording about allowing 60 days.

:chatter:
Call them. You should get a better idea of your status that way.

My original license took 4 months. Yes, that's not a typo... 4 months. I had sent it in about a month and a half after 9/11/01 so everything was delayed and more closely examined. I ended up called like 3 times and that was the answer I received every time. "Because of 9/11..." That was a long 4 months. my renewal was only about 2 weeks, and my address changes not even 2 weeks. It all depends on what's going on at the time you're waiting for yours.
