I might have liked the stooges a little bit when I was around 8 years old but as an adult, I really can't stand that kind of low-brow humor. Maybe if I was high or something.

I love the stooges but give the edge to Shemp.

It’s Curly Joe, Joe DeRita, etc... that came along after Shemp that were really terrible.

Curly was the best,,,even though Shemp started out with them first, Curly had it! Shemp was a good fill in after the fact because he was an original.
Anyone who took Curly or Shemps spot after the fact were not part of the act. They were never really one of the “boys” and in my opinion were no good to the trio and not funny at all, they just took up space.
They really lost their comedy and their greatness when they lost Curly!

Duh. The Three Stooges was made for 8 year olds, and for adults who can appreciate the pure physical effort and precise comedic timing necessary to pull off that level of 'cartoon' performance.

    Curley was a natural, period.

I once saw Shemp in a non-comedy dramatic role. It was interesting.

I’ve been watching the Stooges for half a century. I still watch them when I need a good old fashioned laugh. As simple and crude as their comedy is, these guys were brilliant, ahead of their time.

These guys were in tune with world news of the day as shown by their several episodes satirizing Hitler and episodes reflecting the depression era work camps like WPA.

I rarely watch a non-Curley Stooges. But of his replacements, Shemp was the best.

Man....my heart says Curly, of course. But, Shemp has his moments. They’re all great.

Thanks for posting this though. I need to rewatch all of them.

Exactly my thoughts. Shemp inside the gorilla cage was hysterical. Wish I could find that episode.

Curly by a nose but Shemp was fine.

Samuel Horwitz who played Shemp was known as the “Ugliest man in Hollywood” which I never really got?:dunno:

I’ve read Curly was the groups “enforcer” as people would actually walk up and slap the actors playing the stooges thinking it was funny. Curly apparently showed many the error of their ways...
