    ...into the dark side!

To mark some personal accomplishments, I've decided to get a nice 1911. I'm a die-hard GLOCK and Hk guy, so this 1911 won't be carried or have many rounds through it. I just appreciate the way a nice 1911 shoots and feels. So my price range is the 1200-1400 range, and I've narrowed my selection down to the following (in order of importance):
    -STI Trojan
    -Colt Gold Cup Trophy
-Springfield Trophy Match (also looking at a TRP if the price is right)
    - Kimber Gold Match II (MAYBE...)

Depending on what prices my dealer can get on these, I'll have an "incoming" post in a week or so. Wish me luck!

The Trojans seem to get great reviews. I like the Colt, only 'cause it's the "original," and Springfield has their good reputation. Not really too interested in the Kimber unless I could get a real good deal on it (not likely). My dealer is on vacation right now, so I have to wait for him to get back before he can even do any research. Man, I hate waiting!

Out of the one's you mentioned, the TRP gets my vote.

I like the TRP and Trojan.

BTW, 1911s are the light side. ;)

Check out the newly released Colt Gold Cup National Match. Blued instead of stainless steel and with a more classic look.

Thanks for the input, everyone! Of course, bac, your buyer's guide was a valuable resource. @fn: I'll check out that Colt-thanks for the recommendation.

Go dig up a pre 70's commercial or original series 70 Colt and build up from there.
    Gunbroker has quite a few.

You won't be sorry, and you may end up finding that you'll shoot it much more than you are now anticipating!

Same here. They are timeless. Plus I always start with older Colts as base pistols for custom builds.

Hard being a Colt fan these days though. Especially after the disaster Colt had in the 90's with the junk they churned out. But I think they are getting better. Slowly.

After getting an STI, I'm a HUGE fan now. If you can find a TRP for the right price, it's going to be really hard to beat, but STI's are simply awesome. Honestly though, those are the only two on your list I'd even consider.

Good luck. I have 3 Kimbers, all ultras and 2 SAs, one Loaded Operator (most accurate gun I own) and a Micro Compact.

    All have been great.
