I have not missed the trend in some areas where the courts ignore most crime. The result is petty crime is ubiquitous. It is a bad idea to live in a county with leftist, progressive judges.

There is no easy solution. We have a very diverse population with strong constitutional guarantees.

When you see comments such as 'we shouldn't lock people up for every little thing' then you know that person has no experience with the justice system. That isn't happening, they just extend your probation.

‘Reform’ usually means letting the bad guys out of prison.

One doesn’t get in the big house from one criminal event, usually.

Correct; Largely Homogeneous societies are better suited for reform than our Melting Pot of disparate cultures...and those other countries which enjoyed a "better" system of reform are now realizing a huge change with the influx of Muslim criminals...their "system" is not so good any longer

What I want and will never see...is an end to the 2-tier CJ system here in the US...one system supports and covers for the Elite and the other is for the rest of us....don't believe it?...just look at DC and the swamp dwellers there...why have there not been trials and prison for their crimes?

Amen laws and punishment are only for us peasants/sheeple.
Institute a nationwide death penalty for certain crimes of violence and put in a execution express lane. When the corrections system went from incarceration to rehabilitation decades ago, that was the death knell of justice for all.

Ii still remember seeing the 'chain gangs' (AKA Cool Hand Luke) working the ditches on the side of the highway in my home state as I grew up. Guard had a shotgun, and would shoot.

It was a powerful incentive to me, not ever do anything that would cause me to wind up in prison.

They also had some piles of big rock and some sledge hammers in the prison for those who couldn't be out on the highway.

Isn't that the same thing as " locking them up", since they are being physically restrained?

Street judges that deliver swift and appropriate justice! Judge Dredd is a good movie by the way.

Which " other advanced countries" would those be, exactly?

Our criminal justice system is a complete joke. The politics and money will ensure that it stays that way.

You have to ask, is the desire to punish someone for wrongdoing to appease the victim's at the expense of the taxpayer only to make someone a worse criminal really working?

We don't need criminal justice reform; we need human behavior reform. Let's stop blaming the justice system.

And bring back public hanging(To be viewed by adults only) and I would like to see a guillotine used for the mass murderers and the "Manson" types.

Also bring back hard time chores like breaking rocks, chain gangs as well but only for violent and cruel criminals(That haven't yet murdered). Pedophiles all go to women's prisons like Texas for example.

In theory, "reform" means the individual has had a change of heart and can be a productive member of society. This is what your leftist politicians would like you to believe is happening in our prison system.

In practice, "reform" means joining the cartel or becoming a born again Jihadi.

We are just wasting our money on dreams of widespread reform (when reform is defined as what leftist politicians want you to believe it is).

Prison would be a much larger deterrent if we made it to be what it should be, a miserable penitentiary.

I used to play softball with a bunch of FBOP guys. The stories they told were eye opening. Also said that every con insisted they were innocent. I don't have much faith in rehabilitation. Lock them up to keep the law abiding safer. Don't really care about the criminals.
