I think it should be considered more of a monument for native Americans as a whole. Why the Crazy Horse thing? This is a private venture funded by private and donated monies. They can take as long as they want. This thing is huge as the article states the entire Rushmore monument will fit in the head of the Crazy Horse monument. You can't carve an entire mountain in a few years and do it right.

Wow! I'd forgotten all about that thing. It's been a "work in progress" for a long time now. While they won't be seeing a check from me in the near future, ya' gotta' give them an A+ for ambition. I wonder how many man-hours per week goes into the project.

I think I remember seeing this thing under construction when I was a kid. We were vacationing and stopped to see mount Rushmore, I was 6 or 7 at the time.
BTW I'm gonna be 52 pretty soon.

rushmore was made in 14 yrs..this one has been going on for 64....lol

if it was all thier money then yes it doesnt matter when they finish it if they even ever decide too. but they ask donations from people to help get it finished and if thier useing the money for other things then thats called fraud.

I have read only secondary sources, but my impression is that Crazy Horse became revered because of his stance. Others in the tribe traveled to Washington to negotiate because they figured they were going to lose anyway. Better to get a paltry payment than nothing. Crazy Horse never went to Washington and was steadfast. That is my impression; others more familiar might have a different view.

I remember seeing this when I was in the Black Hills with family seeing Mount Rushmore. Kind of sad to think this thing is so old and not even close to being finished. I'd like to see how much work is actually being done to it, because I doubt very little work is being done. They definitely need to get this done soon, it shouldn't take 64 years to do the head of Crazy Horse, which has been done for a while now, and have nothing else to show for it.

My family happened to being visiting there a couple of years ago when the had their first blast in a couple of years.

We were lucky to see the blast.

The visitor center was nice enough and had some interesting things in it. The cost was not outrageous, and we go to take stone home that was part of the rubble created over the years. You can't take stone from Mount Rushmore. So that was cool.

Yeah it is taking a VERY long time, but I did not feel ripped off in anyway. If they government were doing it, they would take the money from me involuntarily without another thought. At least I gave my money freely.

Great place to visit, how to get back out there some day. I guess they can take as long as they need to/want. No one is forced to donate.

Seems to me that some folks found a way to milk a career out of a single project. The tribal folks need to hire a lawyer and an accountant, IMO.

your not forced too but if your told that they need money to build it and then you donate money to build it and then they take the money and buy houses/cars/pet monkeys, then thats against the law.

im just saying..they made 19 million in donations in over five years and havent finished it yet.

Kind of how tribal govts work. You dump metric ****loads of OPM into them, the money disappears and nothing changes.
