So just as I was about to take a much overdue siesta from a long event filled ay at work, our tones went off and dispatch told us we had Police bringing us a patient. PD brings us a 16 year old male that was fighting, hallucinating, completely out of his mind. We were told that he drank at LEAST one entire bottle of over the counter cough medicine to get high and "Robotrip" Now I've been doing this for several years and while I've had tons of heroin, crack and every other drug you can imagine as an OD call, this was my first "Robotrip" call. After putting him in the ambulance to check him out his pupils got HUGE, his blood pressure was 172/102, heart rate 186, breathing was rapid, shallow and irregular and his skin looked like he was dropped in boiling water, bright red and hot. During the seizure he got Versed which did a great a great job of stopping the seizure, then he stopped breathing and blood pressure dropped to 70/40 ish. We had to bag him, tube him and breath for him the entire way. This kid is now on a ventilator, completely unresponsive to pain or any stimulation and in general was not doing well when we left. Parents talk to your kids about things, not just pot, drinking etc. Also talk to them about unconventional things like this. Jess and I had about a 30 minute discussion with Colby (12 year old son) this morning over breakfast about all the dumb things kids do to "get high" It's worth 30 minutes of your life, 30 minutes i'm positive these parents would like to have back.
