Normally I too don't waste my time on them. I remember people at check out looking for the right members club tag on a keychain. Some had 15-20 of those plastic tabs. When I need that discount and I sign up I always use a bogus email.

One exception is GoodRx. It saved me $430 on 90 Lidocaine patches the other day.

I pronounce it like the first words in the French sayings "coup d'etat" or "coup de gras". This is how I heard it growing up, so thought the other pronunciation sounds ignorant, like calling law enforcement poe-lease or a medical emergency vehicle amb-you-lance. No offense intended.

In what the company called “a surprise upset,” 57 percent of people in the U.S. say “cue-pon.”

That pronunciation was favored in 36 states, including most of the South, Midwest and Northwest. The top five states that skewed most heavily toward the pronunciation were New Mexico, Idaho, Missouri, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Meanwhile, the states that prefer saying “coo-pon” include Washington, D.C., New Hampshire, New Jersey, Hawaii and Rhode Island.

In a statement, Coupons.com CEO Steven Boal said he’s been pronouncing it “coo-pon” since founding the company 13 years ago."
