Domestic disturbance suspect fires on Carlton deputies

The man, a 41-year-old from rural Blackhoof Township, later was apprehended and transported first to a hospital for evaluation and then to the Carlton County Jail, where he is being held pending charges.

A man who had barricaded himself in an outbuilding fired on deputies Saturday after they responded to a domestic disturbance call at Barnum.

The Carlton County Sheriff's Office received the call about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release. It was reported that there was a domestic disturbance and a man had fired a rifle in the yard of a home at 3060 County Road 104.

When deputies arrived they removed people from the home and learned that the suspect was barricaded in an outbuilding on the same property. While they were trying to communicate with him, the man "randomly fired the high caliber weapon in the direction of officers on scene," according to the news release. No one was injured.

The man, a 41-year-old from rural Blackhoof Township, later was apprehended and transported first to a hospital for evaluation and then to the Carlton County Jail, where he is being held pending charges.

Other agencies including the Cloquet Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Consolidated Emergency Response Team helped in the incident.

Not enough information to really judge... Need to know if he had a CCW permit before deciding the cops overreacted... :whistling:

What are you talking about?! He was in his own home. The police most definitely overstepped their authority and violated his 2nd Amendment rights.

Does anyone know if the police had appointments, or were at least wearing hats?

He did it because he could, why when was a kid people shot randomly all the time on their own property. Why the JBT's trespassing on his property in the first place?

What part of " shall not be infringed" don't they understand?

    "fired on deputies" WTF
He's lucky he wasn't killed. They responded to a disturbance call!
To keep the peace the cops did the right thing. Let him claim his gun after he is evaluated.

The 2nd amendment does give you the right to shoot off random shots through walls. the PD was called to a domestic and found a barricaded subject. Plenty of PC.

I sure hope some of the posts are tongue in cheek. This idiot deserves to lose his gun and had no right to shoot at cops.

So - some poor guy gets into an argument with his wife, then goes out to do some target practice to blow off steam. Then the evil Jack Booted Thugs wander onto his range and arrest him for exercising his second amendment rights?!?!?!?!

    This is an outrage!!!

I'm suing the local PD for him. Where can I get their number. I'm emotionally traumatized just from reading this. I'd say this is worth at least $500,000!! And that's for me. This guy should get more.

It is perfectly legal to Open Carry on your own property and what kind of America is this where a man can't step onto his porch and fire off a few rounds to test his handloads or his 25 cent trigger job after a long whine session from his wife?????

    Dang communism at work here!!

As long as you paint the muzzle safety orange, the cops will overreact!

It is a good safety feature, much easier to keep track of where the muzzle is if its dayglo orange!

But...but...but...You CAN'T take my gun! Don't you see this nifty CCW badge hanging around my neck?! Maybe you'll see it better if I illuminate it with muzzle flash!

Sounds like a perfect misunderstanding to me...
