I sense the skunk was appreciative.

Skunks are prone to rabies, hope neither of them are at risk. Don

Just killed a skunk with a 22 rifle the other day. The neighbor called me over and said there was skunk in her yard. She had called the city's animal control but they wouldn't come out.

I took a look and the skunk was either sick or injured. It was crawling on it's belly and rolling over onto it's side. She wanted to shoot it with her 9mm pistol. I said to hold on and went and fetched my single shot 22 rifle and some Super Colibri ammo. The SCs are primer fired (no powder) and are no louder out of bolt gun than a pellet gun. I popped the critter and buried it in the ditch behind the house.

I shot one that got in my basement somehow. I suppose maybe the old coal chute.
Anyway I got the bright idea if I shot it with my .22 on a good head shot it wouldn't spray.

It didn't work out that way. :(

I've caught I few in my Hav-A-Hart trap while trying to relocate some racoons. Just opened up the trap with my pole saw at maximum reach...they just waddled off after a while, never seemed too upset.
I have since learned to get only racoons, put the trap on the picinic table, not on the ground.

I always stop and take real good sniff before leaving the door if I have to run out to the shed after dark.

Prime rabies carrier in my neck of the woods. No way I'm going hands on, much less in a short-sleeved shirt.

What's the bullet weight and velocity?

Ever get a bullet stuck in your gun?

Seems a neat idea if it kills varmints at close range, but doesn't shoot through your barn :)

20 gr bullet @ a listed 590 FPS, maybe a little more out of a rifle, I've never chronographed it.. Never got one stuck in any rifle I've shot them with.

The rifle I was using was an old Winchester mod 68 single shot bolt action made in the 1930s. It was my dad's first gun. He got it when is was 8 or 9 years old. He lived on a farm during the depression and carried it back and forth to school in town. He would shoot rabbits and pheasants on the way home. It was the first gun I ever shot and it's still taking care of business.
