Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of people who shoot at cops have no assets worth going for in civil court.

I'm sure the officer knows that but it's probably about the principle more than anything. For once it's actually the criminal getting sued and not vice versa.

If the shooter has insurance, wouldn't it come from that?

That's interesting. Now the Trooper can take the money from Jones, and buy Jones' new roommate a lot of cigarettes to make his stay.........let's say interesting.

Cigarettes and honey packets will make Jones' stay much more appropriate for the crime.

Only if he has personal liability insurance, I don't know about everyone else here, but all my assets are creditor protected, meaning even if I get sued for some reason, no one but me can access my finances.

I believe in fairness. If the shooter doesn't have any way to pay off the cop in the lawsuit if the cop wins, the cop should be allowed to shoot the shooter.

I don't really care. Sue em if legal to do so. If possible to garnish future wages, take those too. **** em, and the snake they rode in on.

I think it would have been a much more uplifting headline if it read: "Cop beats shooter to death on roadside with the shooter's own shoe."

But, hey, I'll take what I can get.
