Well, what can I say? Coolest picture I saw all day.

    Is that an airport?

I've seen several pictures that top that but I'm sure I can't post them here.

Is that takeoffs and landings? I am used to seeing them going the same way, but there are no lights on the near side of the runways that I can see? :dunno:

Something is off, takeoffs aren't that steep.

Deffinatly looks like a civilian airport. Looking at the plane in time lapse, looks like a virgin airways tail.

It is take-offs, you can see the direction of the tail approaching the runway.

Pretty sure the distances (and angles) appear compressed due to the use of a long telephoto lens. That runway is at least a mile, maybe 1.5 or more miles long, and if you apply that distance to the takeoff/approach patterns, then they make more sense.

DJ's correct, it's a heavily zoomed timed exposure. The angles of attack are exaggerated greatly.

For what it's worth, commercial flights out of Port Columbus here in Ohio are kind of dramatic when the winds are westerly. Flights gain a lot of altitude quickly as they fly over the tony part of the town and some high valued properties to include OSU.

It's not unusual, other airports have the same abatement ordnances to observe. From the point of view of the photo, it looks damned exciting, but it's deceptive.

I was skeptical, but that is indeed the coolest (if not most, ehm, interesting) pic I've seen today.
