does the LWD or any other conversion barrel makers cause any damage to the gun's slide/frame? lets say if i take a g-22 and put in a LWD 40-9 barrel in it will it now make the g-22 a gun that is as durable as a g-17? i guess what i am afraid of that if i buy one and shoot the 9mm a lot and then switch to the stouter 40 cal for defense is there something that might take unusual abuse and break/wear out faster? thanks.
You are okay shooting 9 out of your 40. Most of the "conversion damage" story stems from shooting 357sig out of an early frame 40. The polymer supporting the front rails in the early 40 frame was not deep enough in back of the rail to absorb the extra energy generated by the 357 round. This area was reinforced in 40 frames after the problem was recognized.
No sir, you are good to go if you install a different (9mm) barrel in your G22. If you decide to switch back, no problem there, either. That's the beauty of the GLOCK design.
