Although I prefer full size service pistols and carry a Glock 22 24/7 I now have the need to carry a small pistol a few days per week. I have shot and owned the Glock 26/27 in the past and they are great little pistols. A Glock 27 would seem logical and magazine compatable with my model 22. But the short barrel bothers me in terms of ballistics. I was thinking that the Glock 33 in 357 SIG would give me more velocity and power out of that short barrel. For those that work with the Glock 33 what are your thoughts on that? Recoil does not bother me. Thanks-Bill.

    <---biased.

If you have to shoot through vehicle glass/doors, it will give you a slight edge. (Gold Dots)
Otherwise, the G26/27 are good also.
    Enjoy.

They compared a SW99 Compact in 40, a chopped & bobbed 1911, and a G33. I carry my G33 with DoubleTap, which is significantly hotter than even Hornady, but I was still surprised at how hot the commercial loads are coming out of 33. The 40 they tested ran 915/986/954 at 180/165/165. The 45 was a real shocker, I can't wait to chrono my G30 with DT, I think I'll get better numbers than 785 fps for Speer 230 gr GDHP (that's pretty pathetic performance).

The 357 Sig in the G33 ran 1276/1284/1133 at 125/125/147. The first velocity listed came from Winchester White Box FMJ - I've shot a LOT of that as Wally World carries it, it is low recoil/low power "practice" ammo.

I bought my G33 because anything smaller than a 45 ACP bugs me - except a 357 Mag. The 357 Sig is intended to duplicate the classic 4" revolver cop load - 125 gr JHP at 1400 fps.

Incidentally, I bought a factory G27 barrel and shoot 40 S&W when my hands get tired, something to consider if you want ammo compatibility with your G22.

    Regards,
    Brian in CA

If recoil does not bother you, can I interest you in my very own G33? :) http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?item=56281851

I bought the G33 thinking it would make the best CCW combination of power and small package, and I personally find it a bit hard to handle. I have smallish hands so that might contribute to it.

I love the 357 SIG cartridge, own and shoot a G32 and looking to get either a SIG 226 or XD 357 tactical. I just don't like it in such a small package as the G33 :)

Thanks for the reply and offer of your Glock 33 Dobbler. Being a LEO I can buy a new Glcok 33 cheaper than what you are selling yours for. Bill.

Sarge, I've been shooting and using my g33 for almost 2 years. I think the muzzle blast magnifies the percieved recoil. I can't tell much difference between the 27 and 33. I chrono'd my loads of 125 grn. Winchester Ranger sxt @ 1336 from my 33. :) Also, very accurate.

The G33 is no worse than the G27 with 155 silvertips. I loved mine and miss it alot. One of those guns you regret getting rid of when you do. I was reading that the G33 has the same muzzle velocity as my Sig 229 with the same loads. "due to the better rifleing". ST

My wife carries a Glock 33 when she is in plain clothes which is most of the time. She loves it and her hands are so small that she wears a size 5 ring. She qualifies with higher scores with it than all but one or two guys in her department do with their Glock 22s and 17s. When she shoots her Glock 31, she pretty much waxes everybody.

She used to carry a 3" S&W 13 or a 4" Ruger Police Service Six. Both of them had really great action jobs and are slick as glass. She just made the switch from revolvers to autos about 6 years ago. She discovered real quick that the higher capacity and faster reload allowed her to take more time with her shots and still beat the clock on the qulification course.
She can shoot possibles all day long. She says the G33 is easier to carry all day long than the revolvers, and the gun and one extra 15 round magazine gives her 25 rounds where in the old days, the revolver and two speed loaders only gave her 18.
