I think I'm going to jump on the new Dell i6000 bandwagon, especially since there's a %35 off right now. No gaming, just on the road internet and photoshop. Help me hit the "sweet spot" in performance/price. Here's what I got:

    . Intel Pentium M processor 750 (1.86G/533)
    . XP Home
    . 15.4 WXGA
. RAM? I eventually want 1G but they're offering 512 in 2 DIMMs. My choices are: 1) 512 in 1 DIMM for $25 more and add a second 512 on my own (Is mixing RAM ok?), 2) 1G DDR2 in 2 DIMMS for $225 more and be done with it, 3) ebay the 2x256 for some money and install my own Kingston 2x512 for about $250.

. 60G HD. $100 upgrade for the 7200rpm. Or should I ebay this HD and install my own Hitachi 7k60 for about $170?
    . 24X CD/RW-DVD
    . 64MB ATI X300 video
    . Intel 2200 internal wireless
    . 9 cell battery

Looks pretty good...it's amazing how many people opt for the hotter-running, battery-sucking yet much slower Celeron they offer with their base machines...

Everyone agrees later that they regret that choice, but just try to tell some of these n00b that!;Q

Anyhow, I believe you'll be happy with that one for quite a while.

    Good luck.

I pulled the trigger on this system last night. Total with tax is $1260. Not too bad.
