The anti-gun VPC has a running tally of murders by CCW people.

We should keep an eye on this, and debunk it where needed.

They are apparently including accidents and cases where murder/manslaughter charges are filed (even if no conviction).

    http://www.vpc.org/ccwkillers.htm

Maybe the major debunking is that they are small numbers in a large population.

I guess they should re-label it to include CCW Murderers and I bet the # would be way low.

Sounds like a bunch of fuzzy math from a bunch of close minded people.

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics

Actually, when you look at that...considering that list was started in May 07, thats not a lot of crime at all. I wonder how often they will update that form when there's an acquittal. I see they did list one that was dismissed in Florida.

Quite a few of them, are also Domestic situations... if it wasn't a gun, it would be a knife, or a harpoon, or whatever.

Something else I just noticed that I consider the ultimate deception. Quite a few of those people, are on more than one list, making their numbers appear inflated.

Maybe we need to post a graph showing murders committed by NON-CCW holders for comparison purposes?

It looks like their period is over 31 months. May 07- Present.

    Per their numbers
LEOs Killed 9 which is 3.5 per year.
Private Citizens Killed 98 which is 34 per year.

    2008 FBI Crime Report
    LEOs Feloniously Killed 530
    Citizens Murdered 14,180

    Adding from the 2008 report.
Private Citizens Justifiably Killed 245 People.

I sent them a message to show a stat showing how many of those "private citizens" were killed while they were committing a crime. That number would drop big time.

And Florida alone has some 1.5 million permit holders, with several million nationwide. 107 people killed over a two year period actually clearly demonstrates a low instance of killings by permit holders.

They display these statistics in a manner which seemingly supports their argument, yet these statistics can only prove to be supportive of that argument if you choose to ignore or simply fail to recognize the bigger picture.

Furthermore, some cases included are those which a permit had no bearing. Like the man who killed ten people in Alabama with rifles, not a handgun. However, because he was a permit holder the case was included in the "study".

This is what we call "juking the stats".
