See all those ads on the right side? They slow down my computer so bad I can't scroll down the page hardly. Not just this site, anything with flash ads. Is there some way to disable that feature?

For example I was playing a flash game the other day and it stuttered so bad I gave up. Played the same thing on a friend's new laptop and it worked fine.

    What browser are you using?

Firefox and IE8, same situation. I've run all the spyware/bot/cleaner programs known to man, but I think has something to do with the computer itself.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs, click to highlight Adobe Flash Player and then click Remove.

There are separate Flash players for Firefox and IE. Remove both for now if you see two.

If you are using Firefox, try AdBlock Plus addon.

You can also download a FireFox extension that will stop all Flash ads unless you choose to let them run. Wish I knew the name of it for you. Unless you have a very old computer something is wrong. Download the newest drivers for your video card. Make sure you follow the directions exactly for installing the new video drivers as there are some specific tricky steps but easy to follow as you go through them. Uninstall FireFox and reinstall then reinstall the correct version of Flash for FireFox. Try this website to check the condition of your computer but you must use IE for it to work. It is very useful. www.pcpitstop.com

Thanks guys, I downloaded the AdBlock feature, helps some. Guess it's time for another computer.

Any idea why it's doing that though? Is it because I don't have a dedicated video card? The thing is 8 years old and pretty bare bones.

It may be the security software you have may just be too big for an old stripped system. What security programs are you using? Antivirus / antispyware, etc.

You would be surprised what picking up an inexpensive video card will do for your old system. But you are correct maybe its time to just get something new. WalMart is always running some kind of great computer deal. Right before Christmas they had very nice $199.00 laptops. If you have a custom computer shop near you that strips old systems see if they will sell you the correct video card and some more RAM on the cheap.

Format your PC, install Linux. Problem solved.

Another vote for Adblock Plus + NoScript with the Moz.

If your computer is 8 years old, it's probably a Pentium 4 (maybe a 3 if you're unlucky) with 512MB or less of RAM.

Hit the little window button on your keyboard at the same time as the "pause/break" button and it should open up a system info box that will tell you how much RAM you have & what sort of processor.

After 8 years, you're right, time for a new computer. Whatever you have isn't worth upgrading. Just replace it with a nice new unit for like $400.
