Suddenly my computer is really slow. I tried to run disc cleanup, and it just says "Scanning: Compressing Old Files" with like 4 bars and never moves further than that. I tried to run my virus scan and that didn't even finish over night. What the heck is going on? It's a Dell 4500 (?) and I run Firefox and windows 2K if that helps? What can I do to clean this thing out?

ALSO: When I put a disc in either of my CD drives it says it either can't read the disc is not burnable (I've been burning on these discs for 6 months)

Man I suck at computers :soap:

sounds like a virus, or at least that's what i've seen cause that in the past

hit ctrl+alt+delete and end some tasks to see if it frees itself up.

my problem was with a service which kept restarting itself. took forever and some non-microsoft software to kill it.

norton was useless, as it couldn't scan.

Try to run an anti virus program in safe mode.

Can you give us some system specs like CPU, RAM, HD? How much free space do you have on your HD?

Same thing happens to me sometimes. I'll put a CD in and it will come up like it's an empty disc.

My disc cleanup is also doing what yours does.

DC: Thanks for the links. I already downloaded Crap Cleaner and....wow. Did the option for scan for issues and I had a little over 400.

    Downloading the other stuff now.;c
