Was doing a little inventory today and came across these Colt 20rd. mags that I forgot I had. Can any of you AR gurus tell me if they are preban mags? The stamp on the bottom of one of them is 5.56 and the other .223. No manufacture dates on either.

Also if they are preban, what states am I legally able to ship to that someone may be able to get some use out of? I know NY is out. 20150926_223930.jpg 20150926_223720.jpg 20150926_223811.jpg 20150926_223720.jpg 20150926_223930.jpg

I don't think pre-ban or post-ban makes any difference. That was a Federal law (AWB - Assault Weapon Ban). At this point it comes down to State law. In general, I can own those types of magazines in California only if I owned them prior to the California ban. I can't bring them into the state, not even as a 'kit' of parts. FWIW, I don't have to 'prove' I owned them before the ban. I just have to say so. But it's important that the manufacturer actually existed before the ban!

I'm not sure how it works for other states but I imagine it is similar.

    My guess is 1980s vintage.
If you don't want them, I'll buy them providing that the price is right.

Had they been made during the ban, they would be dated. I have seen lots of mags made after the ban with dates as well.

    Pre94 for sure.

I think MA might be the only state that can still get preban magazines.

I just opened a chest a couple of weeks ago that I hadn't opened for years and found several 20rd magazines still in their wrappers with pre ban manufactering dates. I must have purchased them when I had an FN FNC and never used them.

To save my bacon ( I live in CA), I'm keeping the wrappers with my other papers in the safe. Just in case.

Looking at the magazines, there is nothing to determine their manufacturer or their manufacturing dates. On the wrappers, it lists the dates and manufacturers. They are not Colt.
