I have an opportunity to pick up a Govt MkIV Series 70 Satin Nickel new in box, unfired. This has the early two piece brown box with styrofoam packing. Have been doing a little research on them and hit a block wall! This one has black Colt Pachmeyer grips and any I see listed call out the checkered walnut grips. The label on the box from the factory notes the Pachy grips as well. He also has a matching .380. Any info would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Kougar

Typically the MARK 4's 70's came with walnut grips with the colt gold medalions. Your packaging sounds right for a 70's Mark 4.

Not to sound like an arse but are you sure it 70 series not 80 series. Have you looked for the drop safety? Have you called colt?

All you have to do is call colt and the can verify all for just a little time on da phone. Does the serial start with 70B?

If the gun is true. You are looking at 1200 MAX retail maybe a little extra for the nickle b/c it is more rare.

Call Colt customer service with the serial and they will provide a production date. I love old Colts ! Post photos if you can.

Thanks for the replies. I had some photos sent over as well as serial number. The serial number is 59130B70. Label is marked model 01975. Great looking gun and I know it is not going to be cheap but would like to know a little before taking the leap!

Looks legit but I have just never seen a 70 with those grips. the box looks legit too but guys will go out of their way to fake a 70.

Typically the 70 in the SN is toward the front of the number. Like 70B bla, bla.

Just call colt customer service. they will tell you in 5 minutes along with checking for the 80 series added swartz drop safety.

Those stocks are original for that finish option.....satin nickel with blued controls.

Series 70s had prefixes and suffixes during their production.

Colt doesn't use that type of safety......at least not since a very short while in the '30s.

R.L. Wilson's book puts it at '80, if my glasses are working tonight.

The Series 70 "Combat Government" from the early 80s did.

Just answered another thread about this gun. I have the SAME gun,but had it blued(it actually looks black). It was purchased new in either '84 or '85 when I was with the 82d at Ft.Bragg(B&B Pawn Shop on Yadkin Rd). Wasn't keen on the finish but it was a SERIES 70 so I grabbed it up. Still have it. It had some basic stuff done(polish/throat.trigger job,Novak ft/rr sights, ext.thumb safety and new plunger-tube)at the 'Smithy@Gunsite Ranch. Wow..wild "seeing" what my Colt looked like NIB that many years ago! Good Luck with it!
