Not something you see every day.

I bought her 24 yrs ago because I had a Colt 10mm barrel. Good reason...right? The problem is she shoots too well. Thousands and thousands of rounds later and she has never had any failure what so ever. Maybe one day I'll fit the 10mm barrel. Maybe not.

Nice! Since shooting something besides a Glock I'm finding new love for the .40 S&W. Never really considered one in a 1911 but that looks sweet.

Colt didn't make these for very long. Probably not much of a market for a huge and heavy 8 round 40. Same as a G43 with a +2 mag. But she shoots like a dream. A friend bought a G23 at the same time and we went straight to the range. His Glock had a few hang ups with the cheap range reloads. The Colt just kept running and running. Like I said. In 23 years not a single malfunction.

I'd love to find a Defender in 40S&W, those are not very common either.
I have a Defender in 45. An early example when Colt was using the CZ rear sight from their ill fated Colt Z40 project. That one has also been 100% for 17 years.

Noticed the arched mainspring housing...I tried those on a Deffy and an Officer's, but went back to flat, checkered alloy.

At 6'7" I have huge mits and really need the arched mainspring housing. It came from the factory with an arched nylon (I thought it was flat but then I stumbled across the original) unit but I swapped for an ancient Pachmayr rubber unit. It sort of matches the Navidrex grips.

BTW Yesterday I shot my Defender for the first time in years. 350 rounds of mixed hardball and hollowpoints without a hiccup.

Who fit the grip safety?
Some guy at Colt I guess. It's the factory unit the early Enhanced models came with. Though it doesn't allow for the highest possible grip it's really comfortable. Between it, the arched mainspring housing and the huge trigger guard relief it sort of wedges the gun in the hand.
