I have the hots for one. The lightweight model in particular. Don't know why, just sounds right.

    Any opinions?

    Thanks,

    Tony :wavey:

Yikes! Those are nice. I like the last one the best. With tritium sights, that would be exactly what I'm after.

    Great photography too.

I want a LW Commander also. I own the all steel Combat Commander right now and hope to add one this year. I'm a big fan of the Colt Commanders. There are nicer machined 1911's out there but I likes my Colts.

I've owned, and carried, all sizes of Colt 1911's. I believe the Lightweight Commander is IT for CCW. Just the right combination of weight, power and ergonomics.

Only thing the experts warned me about was frame strength vs round count.

I built mine to shoot matches, so they said to go with the steel frame over the alloy frame.

Range practice and carry? Lightweight should work just fine.

    one more pic for fun

Range shooting and carry is my intent, plus, I just want one.

One thing to consider is the sights.

Front one's a staked blade with no dovetail.

Rear is dovetail'ed, but a simple notch.

Aftermarket sights are available for both situations (or have a front dovetail cut), but the sights are basic, no frill affairs.

Everybody should have a least one earlier Commander and a Combat Commander or 2...

It is a good gun and a great carry piece.

A lightweight commander has a lot going for it and I could be convinced that it is at the pinnacle of carry guns. Now I often carry a full size full weight gov't model because I'm in a very rural area and like the 10MM cartridge, but when I switch to a lightweight commander it is often like it isn't even there.

    Looks good here.

    Not so good here.

I really like my Commander but the safety breaking was a let down, only about 800 rounds. Patrick

    Cool 9mm, Geeorge!

My 9 is a 70 series Combat Commander with a nickel finish.

I bought one used. Looked just like jrs' above before new sights.

Take the 'heads-up' above to heart re: sights. I sent my slide off to Novak for new sights. Sights + Milling came to about $260. I knew that going in, and received excellent and speedy service.

Fun to shoot, easy to carry. Good luck!
