I finally got my new Colt Commander in but somewhat disapointed in how hard the magazine release buttom is to push. Any suggestions or ideas how to remedy this?

    Great gun, XSE, lightweight

Is it hard to press even with no magazine inserted? If not, it could be a slightly mis-machined magazine,

you can cut 1/2 coil of the mag release spring, or maybe a new spring will fix the problem.

Thanks, it is easier without the magazine, this one came with two 8+1 mags, so they are original. It does appear easier to depress if I only have 7 rounds instead of 8, should that make any difference?

Thanks for any input, really a Glock guy but this was one I always wanted back
as I had to sell a Commander many years ago.

Put a few drops of oil on it and cycle it in front of the TV for a few hours.

The magazine button on a John Browning model 1911 pistol is designed to be pushed only when the slide is locked in the rear position. That takes the tension away from the follower spring, which frees the magazine in the well.

Read the friendly manual that came with the gun.

    :whistling:

I was schooled on that some years ago by a well known PistolSmith.
It was darn near an exact quote of what you just stated.
