Tech giants want to pay migrants peanuts to do the jobs of Americans IN AMERICA!!

    That is outrageous.

I dunno you could try market based solutions like lancing the cost of higher education in the US. A degree in BArista shouldn't cost $300k.

I know my company makes heavy use of the H1B program. Not sure how many American developers would have jobs if the program was eliminated, but it would be a lot.

Or they'd just move the code farm to the source of said graduates.

Just like with gun control, much easier to go after law abiding (legal immigrants) than criminals (illegal immigrants). If foreign labor is outlawed only outlaws will be foreign laborers.

Tried to train any recent college grads who can’t read or write? Or who cannot do math at a fifth-grade level? Or who can’t pass a drug test? Pickins’ are kinda thin from what I hear.

The local college has to include remedial proficiency in the three Rs because HS graduates are not three-R'n at a high school level.

No. HR weeds those folks out pretty early on - I never even get to interview them. We’re pretty picky about whom we hire, and we pay really well out of the gate, so idiots aren’t an issue for us.

Thats going to happen eventually anyway. Techies were already telecommuting before covid now if it shows they can work from home permanently expect them to be doing it from anywhere in the world. I can see college kids with degrees in CS getting tech jobs in Mexico or India.

Why do you think Elon is trying to get the hyperloop and SpaceX fully functional. Now they can call a meeting a few times a year and have people commute via ICBM or hyperloop.

Wait a minute! Weren't these college kids calling everyone racist if they were against these H1B visa's even after conservatives told them that this program hurts American workers? But now when it affects them directly they want it canceled. Can't have it both ways, snowflakes.

IMO, keep the visa program and let the snowflakes sweat it out for a few years. Let them learn the hard way that following the democRAT's way of governing is a dead end.

Want to be a democRAT? Then you have to pay the price.

In the 70's and 80's I had to attend factory training (technical work) for days or even weeks at a time. You HAD to be trained and there were no spots for any illegal employees.

Well the country only issues so many H1B Visa, usually the big tech companies snatch up all those visas. Our little hospital tried to retain a specialized Canadian Physician but couldn't get the visa because all the visa had been snatch up by Microsoft. We even had congressional involvement with no success.

Dear god, don't ask the entitled class to actually compete for jobs. Maybe instead of dumbing down our education system, we should let the failures be accountable for their own irresponsibility.

I wonder how many graduates with degrees in Icelandic feminine studies or 13th century climate change are finding employment to pay off their huge college debt?

I can't help but wonder... how would (some, not all) kids these days be doing if we still had robust vocational training in high school? How would they be doing if we have public advanced vocational training, much like we have public universities?

If they hustle and make a lot of overtime working at Starbucks, McDonald's and such it's possible. Probable is another story. ;)

They can't have it both ways, they cannot call Trump a Nazi/Racist for wanting to preserve American jobs to then in turn out of the same mouth ask "Orange Man Bad" to save muh tech jobs from foreign immigrant low wage workers.

I am not for completely scrapping the H1B visa system as to some degree that would (in some capacity) do some more harm than good, but limiting the number of H1B visa given to low wage foreign migrant workers would be a good start.

I bet many of them are living on unemployment checks, $600 a week is a much better wage than $8 an hour. The downside to temporary unemployment programs is the potential incentive to remain unemployed as again $600 a week is better than the wages that the low skill burger flippers made prior.
