Jeff died peacefully at home this afternoon
while being cared for by his wife Janelle and daughter Lindy.

There will be a private internment at Gunsite by invitation, with a
public memorial service at the Whittington Center at a date to be
    announced.

    May he rest in peace.

    For all his many contributions,
not least of which was defending the Philippines
from Japanese aggression in WW2, Jeff Cooper has my gratitude.

I suggest "a minute of silence" as respect on all this Sunday's competitions.

My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and associates. His insights on the sport will be remembered. Allow me to share a part of his 2002 interview by American Hangunner when he was 80 yrs old.

Question: Have you ever stabbed anyone?
JC: No. When you have unlimited ammo, you have no need for a knife.
    _______________________________________________
JC: Fighting with any sort of weapon is more a matter of will than of skill. If you do not have the will to fight, no weapon that you carry can be of any use to you.

A street thug has nothing to lose except his health and well-being. He doesn't want to get hurt… He seeks to have the odds in his favor. If you offer resistance, then most likely he will stand down. In that type of situation in the street, I say, "Do unto others as others would do unto you-- but do it first!"

I have fought in two major wars and in 25 minor engagements in my lifetime. Now, I don't like the exhaustion, fear and hunger that go along with it, but I do enjoy the element of combat.
    _______________________________________________
In immediate combat peril, an officer focuses on the job at hand. "My task is to put that guy out of the fight regardless of department policy and political correctness." Worry about pay raises and such later. Right now the bad guy needs to be on his back.
