Wow.:wow: Overpasses are notorious for extra slick conditions. Good thing no gas tanks blew up.

Gas tanks only blow up in the movies and TV, not in real life.

It's like a thread where a newbie posts an ATF ND video.

Also- In that second link, the crash is in Lodi, CA. Not Kansas.

You mean an ATF (or DEA) professional had an ND? Say it isn't so!

    Indeed.

I just got off work a bit agao, and yeah, this story dominated our news last night, even internationally. I guess the visiblilty was NADA....NIL.....and people just started back-ending others. I can not even imagine. The video shows them on some sort of a bridge.....so I am sure it was full of ice and that did not help matters. Perhaps the bridge was over some water, and the air was colder than the water and created some fog........

    Just terrible.

    Hi Peachie.

Bridges and overpasses generally freeze before/faster than roadways. Roads on terra-firma have a vast reservoir of potential thermal energy which helps to moderate ground temps.

Bridges and overpasses/etc lose this heat energy faster because it does not have that big dam of energy, and there is more surface area for the heat it has trapped to radiate away.

yeah, down here you will notice there are signs all over near bridges saying "bridge will ice before roads"........

even I am a seasoned winter driver, but after living in the south for 10 years I now don't do well in snow/ice. I am also fearful of all the other drivers, they are nut balls down here.

I wonder how many of those drivers were on the cell phone at the time.
