Hi all, I am very conscious about lead exposure and have shot nothing but Speer Lawman cleanfire ammo for about the last 5 years(or Blazer cleanfire). They seem very clean. I'm wondering if there's anything else like them that I should consider?

I have yet to shoot regular non "cleanfire" Lawman. It is significantly cheaper, and is indeed a complete TMJ bullet, but it does have lead in the primers to my knowledge, so I presume the cleanfire is superior for reducing exposure. Any other offerings that you all suggest for indoor shooting? Thanks.

    Shoot outdoors.

I shot leadless primers and total jackets indoors. Nitrile gloves and even a charcoal mask and D-lead wipes things.

Still came back with a level of 6.
My shooting buddy was a 13.

It’s other people’s lead clouds, not just yours.

    Didnt you get the memo...?
The world ends in 12yrs, its not going to matter how clean your ammo is.

All ammo is dirty and bad for you. Just dont get hit with any ;)

Have you had a lead test? I shoot at an indoor range all the time and asked for the lead test when the results came back the guy laughed at me. My results were lower than the general population.

I don’t know brand names you can buy, but if your interested you could get into reloading. Buy the lead free primers and a powder that is extremely clean burning like Vihtavuori. I don’t think you could buy something cleaner than that.

What does it matter if I'm in the next lane shooting my all lead reloads?

Poured babbat bearings for years. Cast and shot lead projectiles for many years. Run near 1K rounds a month. Tested recently levels normal.
    Find something else to obsess.

I've got a few boxes of blazer aluminum cleanfire. It's wonderful and very clean. I just don't like it in my p365 as it has caused malfunctions. My glocks run it all day, though it gets some little shavings inside which are easily cleaned out.

Great info. I need to find out if my range allows frangible ammo.

Indeed, I understand those of you saying what's the point if people around me aren't also shooting non toxic ammo. Truth is I go at the slowest times (afternoon on weekdays) and try and pick areas that have nobody around.

This could be what's wrong with some of the current or past range instructors that constantly post on this forum. Exposure to lead on the range over the years has taken it's toll hampering their ability to think rationally and understand abstract concepts like shock and energy dump. This has to be the explanation for their disorder.

    I found these:

    Also, Winchester "Super Clean 95gr"

$11/box. Might grab a box of each of these and test them out and see if I like them enough to switch from my 147 lawman cleanfires.

Note that frangible has a reputation of sanding the rifling of barrel down when shot enough.

The copper matrix isn’t smooth and it’s also possible to fracture bullets on the way out and have more than one hole on your paper from one round...

Or, they actually got up from behind the computer to actually shoot and learned from actual hands-on experience that energy dump is a bunch of nonsense.

Indoor ranges are just bad for you. IT really doesn't matter what you shoot, everyone else is shooting lead primers, exposed lead based bullets or lead bullets. You may shoot 100rds, at the same time maybe 1000rds Are being fired & you are subject to vaporized lead particles. IF you have a choice, drive a bit further & shoot outdoors.

No it is the fact that after decades anyone without any field experience can believe in energy dump & shock????

That is correct. But in my case the ammo was required to be “green” ie non-toxic in all regards. The frangible was just another requirement as we were going to be shooting steel and this particular training agency requires any ammo used to shoot anything than targets be frangible as well.
