Now that my new system is gtg, I'll be donating my old one.

what's the best way to clean it up to get it ready for someone else?

I don't really want to format it, as there's a lot of useful programs on there, plus installing windows on that thing has always given me problems.

But, I want to make sure it's clean. (If it gets donated to a church, I don't want residuals of any porno sites I've visited showing, yaknow?)

I know the basics, like deleting temp files and cookies... what else, reloading windows on top? It's running 98se.

    thanks

    end of line

Are you going to transfer the licenses for these programs to the recipient? If not then they will be using illegal software and subject to legal action. It’s not just the porno sites that you need to worry about, what about your financial info, e-mail passwords, etc...? Unless you use a disk wiping program someone ... Oh I don't know ... like me ... can always retrieve this information.

WIPE EVERYTHING. Clean it, scrub it, erase it. Any program can be reloaded. Oh, did I already say WIPE EVERYTHING?!

I have had friends in the past who have gotten old computers that had some operating systems left on them. Inevitably they had to clean them out and reload them anyways just to make them work half way decent, didn't even have anything to do with privacy.

Let the recipient worry about the OS.
