Chuck Yeager weighs in on 'First Man' flap: 'That's not the Neil Armstrong I knew'
By Douglas Ernst - The Washington Times - Friday, August 31, 2018

“Ryan Gosling is coming out with the movie First Man where it portrays Neil Armstrong as a liberal progressive anti-Trump (in spirit) non-flag waiver,” a user identified as @ClarenceSwirly wrote. “Probably agree with the National Anthem kneelers, too; at least in Hollywood’s liberal imagination. For your Info.”

“That’s not the Neil Armstrong I knew,” Mr. Yeager — a World War II ace and the first pilot to break the speed of sound — replied.

There is a remedy for this stuff. Cut off their lifeblood (cash flow) by staying away from the movie theater. Cutting off the blood supply (anti-angiogenesis) is one way of treating cancer too.

Funny how the same concept will stop both leftism and cancer.

    Ain't life grand?

I haven’t seen the movie, obviously, so I can’t comment on how Mr. Armstrong is actually portrayed. I had the incredible fortune to spend a limited amount of time with one of the Apollo astronauts and in my discussions with him, I got the gist that Mr. Armstrong and the rest of the crews were very much patriots. They all however, understood (maybe even hoped)that the American achievement of placing a man on the moon might have a positive impact on the world. Maybe folks could wake up and see just what level of greatness humans are capable of if they work together rather that against one another.

I also got the gist that Mr. Armstrong was the epitome of the quiet professional. Never met the man, so I can’t comment from personal experience, but have little reason to doubt the claims if his coworkers. I don’t for one second doubt that the job included a lot of stress and ANY human being would have seen its effects. Maybe Gosling does a good job of capturing how that stress affected him outside his professional and public life. Who knows.

“He was reminding everyone that he was just the tip of the iceberg — and that’s not just to be humble, that’s also true. So I don’t think that Neil viewed himself as an American hero. From my interviews with his family and people that knew him, it was quite the opposite.”

“Mr. Gosling, however, told reporters that “First Man” seeks to show the moon landing as a “human achievement instead of something distinctly American.”

The 2 quotes above show me 2 things:

    1. Hollywood is making this movie, not as a historic documentary, but rather to make a social and political point. If they have 2 brain cells among them, they can do something of value. Pay homage to the millions of Americans who put their assets to the grind stone and by working together accomplished something unique to date. Maybe they can remind folks of what wonders we could achieve as a species if we collaborate. I think you can do both without pissing on the flag. Given Hollywood’s current syphilitic mentality, I won’t put it past them to make anti conservative comments, fake in some illegal alien heroes who save the day. I hope I’m wrong.

    2. Today’s society can’t fathom the idea of a human being that isn’t a chest thumping self centered idiot.

I totally agree, but I have already "been there and done that" because the last picture I paid to see was Saving Private Ryan and that was on a DVD(purchased on sale at Wallyworld). ;)

I thought the Apollo mission's race to the moon was a race against the communists with a goal of preventing them from starting WW3.

If so, the lesson to be learned isn't what we can accomplish if all nations work together. It is what the USA can accomplish when it is united in the defeat of communism. If this movie tries to make up some opposite, pro-socialism message from the moon mission, then it is selling fiction disguised as history IMO.

I never met Neil tho I met Buzz. Both are the epitome of class. Neil Armstrong was one of the quietest most humble man we ever put in space, as was Buzz. Their attitude is they were simply part of a team and nothing special. LOL Buzz had a photog messing with him once and he knocked him on his arse at about 75 years old.

We laughed at the paparazzi who wanted to press charges against a true hero. Hahahahahahaha.

This achievement was solely American. This was not some world wide mankind endeavor, and any movie not depicting actual events should be boycotted. JMO

You mean you never heard of lib revisionism? It's been going on quite a while now--especially in our public schools.

I love that picture, one of my ypunger teachers was bragging about how American education and ingenuity put an American on the moon. I had to point out it was actually good ole German education and know-how that did it. That and a card carrying Nazi.

Tom Wolfe wrote a book THE RIGHT STUFF. It was later made into a movie. I got the feeling that all of the astronauts would scream "USA" at the drop of a hat. NOT being proud of the flag, BS!!!

They looked at Armstrong pretty close before choosing him for that mission. If they thought he was some kind of flake no way he got the ride.

I read Buzz Aldrin’s book Men From Earth way back when. A very good read.

So, let me ask, exactly how much money did other countries chip in for the lunar program? You know, the whole thing. Mercury, Gemini, Apollo. How much? How much did they sacrifice of... anything? Yeah, that's what I thought.

The astronauts, I believe, were very proud through and through to be the instruments to carry out this grand human endeavor. But were even more proud that they were AMERICAN astronauts at the tip of an AMERICAN spear. Rightly, an American flag was planted and it was plainly stated that it was planted for all peoples of the Earth. A supremely noble sentiment.

In that spirit, I will in no way give one flat dime to the profit of the ingrateful and disrespectful makers of this film.

The Left will do/say anything to counter MAGA. To them, America is not great, was never great, and will never be great. It needs to be torn down and rebuilt into their socialist hell hole that they run, of course.

Just stating the obvious, at least with you guys!
