And? Are the bridges being built to code?

That's ok. According to some here, we can all go into IT to solve our employment problems.

If the job was bid fairly - why shouldn't it go to the lowest bidder?

If the America company can't compete then they deserve no business.

Or maybe try and be competitive. If you subsidize losers they never get any better.

Why overpay someone to do a job?

Subsidizing uncompetitive businesses by awarding them tax dollars to do work which could be done more cheaply elsewhere is worse than unemployment.

Seems like we are no longer what we were a century ago. Just today we saw the flyby of the Discovery, a passing of a great era of space exploration. WIll our next generation be able to replicate the past glories ? Private companies should take the slack now and make this country great again. So much for govt corruption and waste , we just heard of GSA spending spree like theres no tomorrow.

We are also shooting ourselves in the foot with Union's! I have personally seen a lot of contractors lose their bids because of Union wages! just look at where American Airlines is...those guys (Union Workers) are lazy and only do the work that is titled under their union contract.

I look at it a little different -

We are still a really good country - lot of talented - hard working capable people -

    Sort of like -- in 1940 - 1960 America was a 9 on a 10 point scale and China was a 3 -

Now we are an 8 - China is a 6.

The change - from being 6 points ahead - to only being 2 points ahead makes us feel like we are behind.

This is where I look at things a little different - THIS IS A GOOD THING - we should feel like we need to work harder to stay on top - because if we don't - in about 20 years we will be a 6 and China will be an 8. :dunno:

If the bridge were to collapse due to shoddy work, how are these municipalities going to hold the ChiComs responsible?

Nope, If the Chi-comms get the contract the bridges and roads do not have to be built to code.

I guess there are no laws against the US Gov't hiring a communist country to build our country?

I look at it this way. We think we are still entitled to eat beef brisket when we can only afford ramen noodles. For now we might eating beef fajita but on their dime, and they the Chinese are eating moo goo ga pan and beef kung pao.
In 20 yrs we will have no choice but ramen noodles alternate with grits for breakfast, lunch and dinner. While Chinese will be eating beef brisket, turkey and ham on banquet table.

Can't watch the video right now, but is just the company Chinese, or are the jobs Chinese as well?

I'm probably in the minority, but I'm ok with foreign companies who hire locally. Similar with Japanese cars made here or even Glock guns.

Well we could get our financial house in order, get out of debt and get off the arab oil teet and then we might be able have a little more swagger. Right now, we are scared to death.
