After a seven year debate with the FireChief he has finally approves Glock as a duty\off duty weapon.

He had seen a story on 20/20 or some other show years ago that bashed Glock for their lack of a safety. Also he understood that just a slight muscle twitch in a persons arm could cause a negligent discharge due to a light trigger(on the approved list is 1911 type handguns)and lack of saftey.

I got a G22 since it was what the State Police changed to three years ago. Part of my presentation was that since ISP went to the G22/23 the State FireMarshal's Office my follow when they get new guns.He tends to want to follow what the OSFM does.I had the chief to handle and dry fire it a few times, he liked it. He is now talking about getting a Firearms owner Identification card (FOID)and learning to shoot.:)

I just have one question, why would the FireChief have anything to do with choosing firearms?
    Do fireman carry?

Our Chief is also paranoid about negligent discharges. We have to have an 8 lb New York Trigger (yuck! :( ) in our Glocks.

Congrats on the Glocks. Part of our getting them OK'd was inviting the top guy to a range session and giving him a G22 full of bullets. He had a big smile ;I ;a and Life is good now ;+

And yes, there are quite a few sworn folks out there who carry without it being generally known. Our local DA & Arson investigators are two of them. I understand that in some places here in the States "regular everyday" Firemen have been getting shot at for quite a few years too......

It is a very awkward job. I wished most of the time that I was just a Fire Investigator. I would like to do some work for the Insurance companies but they seem to be reluctant to use Arson Investigators out of fear that their cases would become criminal vs Civil.

Firemen tend to think of me as a cop now. Cops cant decide if I am a brother or should they arrest me for impersonating.

I can not join any of the State Training Boards because I am not a Municipal, County or State Police Officer. However, I can attend most of their classes if their are vacancies.

I am out of there when I hit 50, it is a young mans game. I can make almost as much money working in the Hospital and have more free time.;c

Seems the NY triggers hasn't stopped those who work for NY from having ND's. Kid

I agree. Until people learn to not put there finger on the trigger until their sights are on the target there will be NG's. The only thing the NY trigger is good for is making a lot of people not shoot as well.

Is the FOID a civilian carry permit? Our outgoing chief prohibits any firefighter to have a firearm in any fire department property. squaman

FOID is the firearms owner ID card. It shows that you had a background check by ISP and can own a gun and or ammunition. Only cops and crooks carry in Illinois. Any Firefighter caught with a weapon on property would subject to disciplinary actions.;g
