To sponsor British soccer team nest of crooked vipers.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...0m-shirt-deal-with-US-carmaker-Chevrolet.html

"Previously, it was suggested the entire sum would be used to pay off United’s massive debt, which currently stands at over £400 million.

However, the prospectus released to accompany Monday night’s announcement indicates only half the money will be used in that way, with the rest going directly to the family."

It will be a very cold day in Hell before I spend another penny on an Obama Motors pile of junk. Non-union Delphi workers lose their pensions thanks to Obama while union workers are protected? Total BS.

    1) The number I saw in the article you link is 200 million GBP which is ~320 million USD, not 480 million

    2) Perhaps--just perhaps--Chevrolet thinks that the $320 million (over 7 years mind you, not all at once) in advertising will result in more than ~$50 million a year in additional sales in Europe? Advertising is a cost of doing business.

Well, maybe they should just run an ad on Craigslist or something.

Yes and perhaps birds will fly out of my ass and lay golden eggs. At least Chevy had the good sense to summarily fire Ewanick for his blatant stupidity on this advertising/marketing blunder. I still won't buy their junk.\

That's what I was thinking. You have to advertise. Sponsorships - if you sponsor the right thing - can yield a tremendous bang for the buck. I may never buy another Chevy but it won't be because of this.

Now whether that particular team was the best one to sponsor is a different discussion entirely, and one I won't get into as I do not know. I know Manchester United is a very popular team.

"Nest of crooked vipers" seems like an odd name for a soccer team, even a British one.

Well, considering GM spends upwards of $4 billion on advertising, 40-odd million a year isn't all that much.

Soccer is very popular in the UK.

Therefore, putting Chevrolet logos on those soccer jerseys will get them in front of lots of eyeballs.

Is that worth $40-odd million a year? I have no idea. Those kinds of things are hard to price even when you're an expert in marketing. It doesn't sound like that much considering advertising once during the Super Bowl costs 10% of that just for the airtime.

Get over it. The bailout is done, quite your whining like it will change anything already, it sure gets old.

Soccer is pretty darned important to those people, it would be like putting chevy logos on the teams in the super bowl.

I dont normally agree with you Ray, but I sure do this time!:wavey::rofl:

Simple fact is, that deal is done, that money is gone. Continue to be bitter and live your life full of anger every time you see something about it, or learn to let it go. One must not worry too much about what one cannot change.

This is not a high-dollar amount, really. And to advertise in a good market on the most popular/known football team in the world is actually a good decision. Also, keep waiting by the door for the 23 billion GM owes you. They'll be along any minute.....
