Yeah the GPWS going off on short final was a bit shady, but its pretty hard to land a DC-8 smoothly, and I think the camera wasn't the best. It also seemed pretty windy.....regardless, it didn't go off the end of the runway, and the tires still had air in em, so im my book it was a damn good landing!

GPWS is merely advisory. It goes of all the time on my approaches. Ain't bent one yet. I'm usually smoother though... usually.

i've seen this jerk-off before. quite impressive:

    green teeth
    driving gloves
    gpws activation
nice carrier-style touch down (i.e. hard)

no wonder he's flying for some rat-bag supplemental.

as a professional pilot, i can only pray this video never finds its way into wide-spread mainstram circulation.

He is probably making more money then most FO's and a lot of Captains these days. N.W. charges their pilots for that red stuff they call food and the schedule is so tight that maybe all they can get on some days. 10 hour rest periods that start the time the engines are off. Get out of the airport, get to the hotel, eat, shower, maybe call home, sleep and be back in the airplane 10 hours later.

It's getting bad and sad out there for aviation as a career. People think it's so easy, they never see the years of college, the years of building hours trying to fly for companies who do "paper maintenance." Then probably a stint with the commuters and then about 32 you may get hired. Laid off, rehired. It';s a tough climb, you have to love it. Problem is you may have to love it so much you give up getting married as you can't afford a family.

Just wait till 2 big ones come together. Then there will be a change . Too bad the carnage will be hell, the publics perception of pilots being over paid to do a simple job, I do not know many real pilots. Those who have it naturally. The kids coming up ace the sim test, just a video game, but their arse is 10 miles back when it should be 10 steps ahead and still know where you are.
I suppose things will change as aviation does. Once we go low orbit or fix the mach problem. That's the nice thing always on the cutting edge.
